Q: Can just one person lie in this hammock or does it only work for two?

I just purchased this product and bought a second one for my kids. My husband is 6'3" and 185 lbs. I am 5'4" and less than 120 lbs. He was apprehensive to get in with both of us but it worked, though I felt squashed a bit. alone it i is wonderful...I feel like I can wrap myself in a cocoon. I would say YES two can fit if they love to snuggle. My son and his girlfriend weigh about 350 together. Son was quite apprehensive to get in with her and kept his leg on the ground...he decided he wanted one for himself and one for her so they bought another one...all in all I LOVE THE HAMMOCK

Q: The picture and reviews show and describe 2 straps, but the description lists 1 strap. What does it actually come with?

I only got 1 strap. So basically useless

Q: How much weight does it hold?

Definitely holds at least 500 lb myself my husband and our kid have all set in it it was not comfortable but it was solid

Q: Does it protect from bugs and the outside?

This is not a bug protecting hammock. I assume you are wanting something with built in netting to provide a barrier. I can wrap myself up and provide pretty good protection but it will not prevent bugs.
