1/1000th: The Sports Photography of Bob Martin

This is a book of beautiful, often startling, sports pictures. Yet there was a surprise that made this big colorful book a special treat; it is that there are small bits of very good text.Near each interesting image there is a brief story about that image. Most made me smile. Gradually I wondered if a young photographer wouldn’t learn something of value from Mr. Martin’s entertaining remarks on shooting and how he went about getting each shot.Interleaved with long batches of images are short essays. One is a short charming piece Mr. Martin wrote, but most were written by fellows who have worked with him. Such a feeling of affection one begins to have for this man, feelings it is evident that others have who have worked with him.
