Good player
works great so far. I don't really like buying a bunch of different peices for my computer. But I really didn't have a choice. Easy to use just plug and play good for dvds and games, seems sturdy and a good value reads cds, dvds, and blue ray

Works with Linux
Great price, worked with Debian GNU/Linux (trixie) out of the box, didn't even reboot. I use it to rip CD's to FLAC. It comes with a USB A -> USB-C adapter too, and it is powered through USB, so it saved a port on my laptop. Very low price, good quality build. I don't know if it's loud, I feel like all CD players are loud compared to the 2020's.

works great
Works perfectly on my wife's Windows 11 HP laptop, my Lenovo Win 10 laptop, and my Dell Win10 desktop. Plays movies and music CDs with no problem. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's SO light and flimsy-seeming, and the cable is SO short! But it works perfectly, and using free DVD software you can find easily online. So if it holds up it's a winner.

Plug and play
Plugged unit into my hp laptop with windows 11. Clicked control panel/hardware and sound/ devices and printers. And there's the drive. Already brought its own drivers, it calls itself "external" that's the device name. Right click on it for options to access it's functions. Works good. Burns DVDs and all that. Has its own built in usb cord.( Original big rectangle USB)

External DVD Drive, USB powered
Bought this as a recently purchased LGA 1700 motherboard does not support an internal Sata powered DVD Drive. Yet, the installation drives for the MB came on a CD. This USB drive met the need. Quite motor. I could not hear it. It is thinner than the drive it replaced but works well and appears to be built to last. My use of a DVD has become infrequent so considered disconnecting and setting aside but decided to keep it plugged in sitting on top of the computer case. With the compact design appears to be part of the computer case and is not a bother. I like it.

Great dvd/cd reader/writer if not running windows 11.
Bought this for my win 11 laptop since they don't come with dvd/cd drives anymore and I do have occasional need to create dvds. However, even though the description seemed to indicate it worked with all versions of windows, I couldn't get it to do anything with my win 11 box. I finally got out my old laptop with win 10 on it and it worked just fine for burning a dvd. I did check and both machines had the same dvd/cd driver installed, so that was not the problem. I have to assume there is some other incompatibility with windows 11 that I could not ascertain. If you're not running win 11, this drive should work just fine for you, although I did not check it for linux compatibility.

It worked on my Ubuntu install
I run Ubuntu and this drive has worked perfectly as both a player and a burner for CD's so far. More info. below.I'm only going to give 4 stars for now because I just got the drive and I haven't tested it thoroughly. The review may go up or down with time. For example, I've only tried CD's so far, not DVD's yet.I don't know why the advertisement would say that it works on linux, but that it doesn't work on Ubuntu. Typically, Ubuntu is one of the most "It just works" distros out there. For example, I run Ubuntu because I have an Nvidia graphics card and Arch doesn't play nice with nvidia, especially if you want to run the proprietary Nvidia drivers, which I did because nouveau is not nearly as good as proprietary with my card.
