The Art of Seeing (The Collected Works of Aldous Huxley)

it's a great book but only for the right reasons
ok, i got this book in the thin and silly hope that i might be able to rid myself of glasses.... now as you might guess, if that is possible at all without surgery it'd be difficult to do, and if done would be likely not crystal clear vision. HOWEVER it is a good book even for the purpose of better vision, especially for the ARTIST in you. I love photography, and some of the techniques in the book HAVE helped me to have what i consider to be better photos. it's hard to describe, but one technique in the book is to outline the horizion lines of the outdoors scenes you are looking at. and as far as artistic ability is concerned taking notice of things like line and form are basic to creating an effective image.also in a historical context it was an interesting book. i like learning from 'thinkers' from this era as they seemed in some ways less inhibited by the society in which they lived than those of today who are so often unorigional.this was a good book.

Must read.
This book is great, after just a few chapters it was already improving my eyesight. Huxley talks about the charlatans in the medical industry and the optical industry who are more interested making money then actaully healing or curing patients. Aldous Huxley points out behaviors that we aren’t normally aware of when it comes to our eyesight and the way we see. If you are interested in improving your eyesight right now you should get this book. if you are interested in not relying on crutches for the rest of your life and being able to improve your eyesight naturally to correct neuroses when it comes to seeing I highly recommend this book.

An interesting read of Mr. Huxley's----BUT THE PUBLISHER BOUND THE BOOK TERRIBLY.
I'll give this book a 5/5 for the content, so not to bring down the rating of Mr. Huxley's work; but the book was terribly bound. If I was management the bindery of this publishing company, I would be terribly ashamed of myself for letting a book be sold in this condition.-The hardcover was being to curling outward after ounly a week after it arrived.-The paper connecting the hardcover to the rest of the book has air pockets that continue to form; it will likely separate from the cover one day.-I'd have wondered if it could have been water-damaged after shipment, but the printed pages are undamaged.

Extremely useful book
I purchased the book after reading an article and it has some especially useful information. I have yet to complete the reading and follow the procedures suggested

good presentation
The author had a lot of knowledge that he could bring into his understanding of all this. He's got a good understanding of what the Bates Method is about (even most interested people totally miss it), and he's a good writer and a smart guy, so I'd have to say that I like this book and recommend it.From what I understand, Huxley didn't end up improving to the point where he had normal vision all the time. His failing to read a paper one time at a speaking is what's referenced a lot by the critics as "proof" he didn't benefit. Give me a break. If you consider the serious visual problems that this guy started with, and how much he improved his condition from there, it's quite a success story.

an eye opener
This book is a model of excellent, clear writing, with loads of insight (no pun intended) and extremely clear, complete, step-by-step instructions on how to improve your sight. The fact that it is no longer in publication does not speak well for the current medical paradigm on this subject. I found it particularly helpful for improving acuity, whether of near or distant situations. It does not attempt to cover strabismus, however.

I was curious about this after hearing about Huxley struggled with compromised vision. Tried some of the exercises, but didn't really see improvement. Maybe I was lazy or distracted or didn't believe sufficiently.

Super
Super condition of a book from 1943. I am already a 'fan' of Dr William Bates' and to read it from Aldous Huxley himself how he used the Bates method and he gives also his extra views is inspiring. We need more people like them. Thanks

An Excellent Book
A fascinating, informative, and personally helpful book; I do wish that I had acquired it years ago. However I do have it now, and am learning again to use my eyes as they should be used.

revolutionary
It's such an intelligent, cheap and painless way of teaching our eyes to work better.I can't believe this is not widely spread as a method to take care of our eye-sight.
