The Watercolour Companion: Techniques & tips to improve your painting

I’m so happy to receive my book today! Matthew Palmer is a watercolor genius!! I’ve been learning watercolor on my own for years, and boy do I wish I would have had this book years ago! It talks about ratios to mixes, it has a picture finder tool that is AMAZING, and I’m not even finished, as I only put it down to write this review! I’ve spent years watching hundreds of different YouTube videos…if I only had this book back then! I rarely leave reviews on anything, but I’m just so excited!

This is a great little book with a lot of very useful information. I love the color mixing aids and will be using them a lot. My main criticism here is the tiny print. I feel like they could have used a slightly bigger font - my eyes aren’t bad but it is a strain to read, especially where there is colored background.

This compact painting companion is very thoroughly organized and informative. It contains many topics and instructional tips that help to guide you along a watercolor journey. From selecting and mixing paints, how to employ brush techniques, which type of paper to use, and how to properly place subjects or items within a painting… it’s all here. A must have for all watercolor painters, from beginners to advanced.

Small book should have checked the dimensions

This book goes through several techniques for using watercolor as well as how to mix colors and basic sketching. Matthew is a wonderful teacher, all his book are worth buying, but anyone learning or wanting to learn watercolors should have this book as a reference.

It isn't formatted for Kindle. It's scanned in pages and not a true Kindle version. The font is so small you can't read it, even when zoomed in. I returned it immediately. This is on the publisher, not the author who is an amazing watercolor artist.

A unique feature of this book is the key mix swatches that has a breakdown down of the colours involved in mixes.There is also a handy picture reference tool, for composition, measuring and tonal values.The author’s style isn’t like the style I usually prefer: it’s very literal and doesn’t leave much to the viewer’s imagination. Not to say it’s bad, though.Worth it for the above tools.

Such a fantastic little book packed full of tips and information this is a excellent and is essential information ever watercolorist should know from beginner to the most advanced. I was very interested how colour mixes are explained and I enjoyed every single page. It's a must have book. And so compact easy to travel with your plain air kit.

O autor explica algumas técnicas de pintura e passa por diversos cenários com algumas dicas de como algo de ver pintado e nesse ponto não foi algo muito interessante, pois o autor não se aprofunda muito nesses temas e funciona mais como um guia, entretanto por todo o livro há imagens das cores usadas e como realizar a mistura, o que facilita para quem tem dificuldade em realizar misturas de tinta.O livro possui também um visor para ajudar a selecionar imagens para pintura, muito útil em pinturas ao ar livre.Não é um livro de passo a passo ou que vá ensinar a pessoa a pintar, assim não recomendo para quem acabou de começar com pintura, mas para quem ainda é iniciante ou intermediário pode tirar proveito, principalmente das amostras de misturas.
