It uses the phosphorescence effect, which is when certain materials absorb light, and then re-emit it over an extended period of time. From the Manufacturer Simple, Clean and Fun Way to Draw in the Dark The LumoPad allows users to draw in the dark without the need for any ink, graphite or paint. One can simply use almost any light source, including the included UV led, to draw on the board in completely unique fashions. Draw with LIGHT! Users can draw on the LumoPad with light, a truly unique experience to other drawing methods. Everyone will find the phosphorescence effect, the underlying effect to the LumoPad, incredible, and will be amazed at how they can make bright glowing streaks of light come seemingly out of nowhere! Drawings Fade Away on Their Own The drawings will slowly fade away after you draw them on the LumoPad, and usually completely disappear after 5-10 minutes, depending on how dark it is. We spent over a year developing the optimal glow material, going through various phases of research and stages of development to give you the brightest glow possible, significantly brighter than of other phosphorescent products. About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Luminescent. Science. Creativity. How did you come up with the idea for this product? As I was fidgeting around with a laser pointing it at various objects at night, I happened to shine it at a bag of phosphorescent powder. I immediately noticed a bright green streak of light and realized that I could draw on this powder with the laser. I quickly created a rough prototype, gluing the powder to a piece of cardboard, and discovered the amazing experience that is drawing with light, and after watching some of my friends enjoy it as much as I did I set out to bring the product out to the market. What makes your product special? The LumoPad is simply a drawing experience like no other -- you don't use a brush, a pencil or a marker, but light. This leaves a multitude of ways for users to draw because of its versatility, allowing people to draw with any blue, purple or white light sources. Additionally the images glow in the dark, and is one of the brightest drawing boards for the dark. What has been the best part of your startup experience? The best part has been the whole process of taking an abstract idea for a product and bringing it to life. Developing all the various prototypes and experiencing successes among many failures has been an incredibly rewarding journey.
