Brody's Ghost Volume 2

Best one yet
The second volume to "Brody's Ghost" is about a guy named Brody who starts to develop his psychic powers and begin his quest to find a murderer who's killed four women.I think of myself as a harsh critic, so when I give a five out of five rating to something, it's done something to deserve it, at least in my mind. There are a few things I liked a lot more about this book than the first one. First, the story is beginning to develop more and I get the feeling that when a certain thing happens, I KNOW the story will be over (i.e. the murderer being confronted). I like that. I hate it when comics drag you along a story that never seems to end. I hope this doesn't disappoint me in that regard.Another thing I liked are these subtly rewarding moments. I love the fact that this loser turns into a bad ass and gets ***SPOILER*** revenge on a group of thugs that almost killed him in the last book. I love how Brody visits his ex-girlfriend all clean looking as if saying "Ha! You thought I'd be nothing! But look at me now!" ***END SPOILER*** It's these kind of moments that give the reader something to root for in Crilley's main character. I want Brody to rise from the ashes and become somebody because I think we all want that feeling ourselves. Kudos to Crilley in this area. It's the main reason why I gave it a 5/5 star rating. One thing that bugs me slightly is this strange blend of Japanese and American mixture culture. For the most part everything has a Western kind of feel (American names and such). But then there are things like a Japanese styled hut (I don't know the real name for them) established within the city. Although the blend of cultures is a tad odd, it's easily forgivable/believable due to this being in the future. Anything can happen in the future and in a way, it adds more mystery. The art is still great. No changes from the first book. Lots of pretty/bleak backgrounds. The characters are still good too. We've got the wise mentor who trains the hero rigorously. Then there's Talia who pushes Brody to do what she wants (I still love Talia). And then we've got our hero, Brody, who's still kind of bland in my opinion. I get that he has anger issues, which I like. Faults in the main character are good, but I don't really have a strong idea of who he is other than he's also entirely too obsessed with his ex-girlfriend. I feel like Brody needs to be explored more concerning his positive traits other than he doesn't kill people when he fights them. Sure he's helping to find a murderer, but only because Talia is pushing him to do it. Talia is great because (first off) she's cute, but that doesn't define her. Misleading characters are the best. You get the feeling that she's selfish because she's using Brody, but at the same time you feel like she cares about his well being (almost kind of like a mother). The 2nd book is my favorite so far. Although it's a quick read, it makes up for it in story, art, and characters. The cliff-hanger at the end was a nice touch too. Definitely makes me want to continue to read.

Flawless
Like the first book in the Brody's Ghost series, it is overall much thinner than Crilley's previous series "Miki Falls". I am very positive that all of the Brody's Ghost books will be at the same thickness from here on out.Volume 2 continues Brody's life where it picked off in the previous book. In Volume 2, you get a little bit more insight at the background for the main characters, Brody and Talia.Mark does not disappoint when it comes to detailed scenery. There are many pages filled with highly detailed city landscapes and such. Every single detail was made with incredible care. Mark should feel very proud of his work; because I am amazed by the amount of work the he put into the book. Also like the first book, there are a good amount of action scenes where Brody has to dish out his fists on his enemies, all of which do not disappoint. Every fight scene is well delivered, and highly suspenseful. There is a MASSIVE cliffhanger at the end of this book that will without a doubt want you to read the next book. But I will not reveal the ending in this review. If you want to know what it is, then pick up Brody's Ghost volume 2 in stores or right here on Amazon! This book is flawless in my opinion. All I have to say is: Keep 'em coming, Mark!

Good, but....
My daughter loves this series!I, on the other hand, am not so enamoured. The storyline is interesting and Mr. Crilley is obviously a talented artist. However, the story told in each book is paced so quickly; it's over before you really start. There seems to me to be too little substance to each excerpt. (I've attributed this feeling to the fact that I'm old enough to have grown up with comics that offered far more bang for their buck!!) So much so that I wonder why (not seriously! I KNOW why!) there are six volumes rather than two or three. But, my daughter's hooked and (I must admit) so am I. We want to know what happens in the end... So imagine how annoyed I am to get to Volume 5 only to discover that it's not available for my model of Kindle Fire! I am not a happy camper, Mr. Crilley (or Amazon... or whoever... Can anything be done to fix that?)!!!!Would I recommend the series? Sure, but with reservation....So... the star rating is a combo of my daughter's 5 and my 3

AWesome, awesome, AWESOME!!!!
Ok, I`d read "Miki Falls" and loved the story. I also loved how Mr.Criley drew his backgrounds, but the artwork of the individual characters kinda bugged me. So when I heard he was writing a shonen series, I was interested but hesitant to buy it (I obsess with manga-ka artwork)because I heard the main character was a guy and I really didn`t want him to look anything like Miki`s love interest: Heero. Well, I watched some of his drawing tutorials online and immediatly noticed how much he had improved, then I was really anticipating "Brody`s Ghost".So I bought it finally. And oh my WORD!!! The artwork is AWESOME!! And the main character is SO HOT!...in book 2. >_<lolYou gotta hand it to Crilley, this series is WAY different than "Miki Falls". It`s darker. But I think that`s why I like it. I feel alot more realism in this story (aside from it being fiction) I felt you could engage with the characters better. Of course the detailed backgrounds are far from disapointing. Yep, you can expect nothing but awesomeness from Mark Crilley`s new series.(ps the books are REALLY thin, but there`s tons of dialogue and things happening so your not getting jipped at all)

The story builds
I had bought book 1 and 2 together luckily as I realised they were pretty small. The first one is basically introducing us to the characters and setting the scene. In book 2 the story and our characters grow. We see Brody transform himself into a more fitting hero to the story and get a bit more background on everyone. I don't like giving away too much in reviews so I'll keep it short but if you enjoyed the first book it's getting better. Books 3 and 4 have arrived today and I can't wait to get started.
