This has become my all around “go to” canning book.
It is clearly written and has easy to follow instructions on preparation and the process. Lots of basic recipes with several variations and a good place to find ideas for new recipes. Good “tips”, “how-to” and step by step instructions. Just the right amount of detail.There are notes on allowable substitutions and deviations for each recipe. Also, in many cases, the author explains the tested recipes vs the “old way” and why they are different. Processing times and methods, in the recipes I’ve used, are in sync with my Ball & Presto books.Each page has a space provided for “Notes”. I always jot my notes in the margin of my recipes on when I used the recipe, how it turned out and any changes I made. Using the notes space keeps my book overall neater and easier to reference.I especially like the last chapter on Soups & Stews. The recipes are just basic and simple. I like being able to make up a batch of something to see how it works before committing time and space to canning it. It’s good to know that if something is a hit and there are left overs, there is no problem canning it.

Beginner at home canning.. needed all the help I could get.. this is amazing .. not only for the education in learning to can your own food.. but the recipes were so good...

Great little book
Recipes and advice from the Pros. Great book to have! It covers prep, cooking, and water bath instructions for varieties of fruits, jams, deserts, vegetables, meats & fish, broth and soups, etc. Simple instructions and room for notes on the sides of the pages.

The pickle recipes are really easy to do and tasted delicious. It's easy to understand and came in excellent condition 👌

GREAT CONTENT - EASY TO UNDERSTAND
I have done a little bit of water bath canning, and zero pressure canning. I wanted a simple easy-to-read and comprehensive book. THIS IS IT!Cookbook has lots of recipes for both water bath and pressure canning, and explains the science of canning - dumbed down so it is very easy to understand in clear, concise language.I’ve made four recipes from this book to can already this week, and all were winners:SPLIT PEA SOUPSOUTH OF THE BORDER CHICKEN SOUPcanned WHITE POTATOEScanned CARROTSI think this is a great book for new canners, but may also have some good recipes for seasoned canners. I can’t wait to work myself through the rest of the book and add more jarred food to my pantry!The book is all about canning - no freezing, dehydration methods, etc. - which I appreciated.I also liked the spiral binding. It lays flat on the counter when I am using it.Great value for the content!

A must have canning cookbook if you like to can your own food
I am into canning. I was tired of purchasing apple pie from the grocery store at $7.00 to $10.00 a pie.Apples came into season and the price was right to make pie filling. I was on YouTube watching Linda's Pantry whereby she recommend a recipe from "The Amish Canning Cookbook" from Amazon. Unfortunately, Linda didn't provide the directions or ingredients need for this apple pie filling, so I bought the book. The directions were easy to read simple to followed with a nice picture of the finish product. Long story short - it was the perfect recipe for an apple pie filling. I had 20 pounds of apples to can into quart jars, 16 quart jars.I had some down time to read some of the recipes in "The Amish Canning Cookbook" and I have tried quite a few of them over the holidays. Let me tell you I am very happy that I had purchased this canning cookbook. I was able to can other items as they became available during the winter season. I just can't wait for my next harvest season.The book is bound with metal rings; so you will need to be careful not to tear the pages out. Each page provides an area where you can add your own notes and/or recipe adjustments. I consider this a big plus because no two people can the same product the same way. Each family will add their own special twist to their family recipe and with this cookbook you can pass along your own family recipes.
