No mess.Each Auburn betty™ kit will have a .05 oz. lightening cream tube, a 0.5 oz. color tube and a 1 oz. developer tube. The Auburn betty™ treatment is a two step process – in the first step, the hair is lightened with a no-drip conditioning lightening cream (Betty lightens even the darkest hair) and in the second step color is added. Auburn betty offers three shade levels. Left over color can be used later to boost color.Note: Product may NOT be returned due to HAZMAT reasons.

Didn't work
I bought this product on a whim. Purchased the auburn color. I followed the directions on the box exactly and after rinsing off the color in the shower, there was no visible difference in the color. Unfortunately, i feel a magic marker would have done a better job

Just a big mess to apply & didn't give a natural look. It was very messy and stained my skin too.
