VetriScience Laboratories Composure for Medium and Large Dogs, 30 Soft Chews

This supplement in treat form provides natural relief for anxious, stressed or fearful dogs and cats. The “treats” have been well accepted by the animals I have given them too, most seem to enjoy the flavor and texture. From my perspective, them smell awful, thankfully I don’t eat them and they appeal to the animals palate.I work in the animal care industry and use this product for my own pets as well as recommending it for clients pets. It works great for dogs with noise phobias (thunder, heavy traffic, fireworks, etc). It is helpful for dogs with mild to moderate separation anxiety to keep them calmer. Keep in mind that this is doesn't stay in the animals system for 24 hours. Each animals body chemistry is different so you will need to find the appropriate dosing schedule for your pet before leaving them “home alone” for any extended duration of time.It also works beautifully as an adjunct to other behavior modification medications without interactions, but must be supervised by your veterinarian or veterinary psychologist/behaviorist. I have an adopted German Shepherd who was severely abused by prior owners. He is afraid of garden hoses/running water, strangers, loud noises, the sound of a basketball bouncing, children playing, he is claustrophobic, just hearing the voices of neighbors conversing sends him into a tizzy...he takes trazodone daily to help him function. He takes “Composure” as his adjunct treatment. It helps to keep his dose of trazodone at a lower level and keeps his overall demeanor status quo and at peace with the world.“Composure” is a Godsend to those of us that live with an animal who lives in a world filled with stress, fear or anxiety.

After much research, I stumbled on these calming treats. Other treats have ingredients that carry risks due to containing sedatives in them. You hear so many stories of "my dog got into the entire bag of melatonin treats, what do I do?!" These treats do NOT contain a sedative/melatonin, and you can safely increase the dose as needed. I hate the thought of drugging my dog, all I want is to help him be calm at times. These do just that...they do not force him to pass out. 30 minutes before my anxious dog is in a social situation, I give him these and it takes his anxiety down a couple pegs. It is not a massive difference, it is a safe difference...I saw some reviews that you only get half the amount of treats in this bag for the same amount of money. Incorrect...look at the images. A similar bag may have "67 mg thiamine" in each chew for ~$6, and you have to give most dogs 2 chews. This bag has "134 mg thiamine" for ~$12, and most dogs need only 1 chew. One bag is just meant for smaller breeds, and this bag is designed for larger breeds (hence double the dose, double the money, same ratio, same end result). You are not getting jipped, I promise. :)

My vet swears by this for calming up my dog down I got these for a long road trip to be partnered with some Xanax to keep my dog calm. My dog had three of these for our eight hour trip which is more than the designated dose which didn’t even touch her she was still super hyper and unable to settle for other dogs this may be the trick but for my particular breed the Basenji it didn’t work

These work great for my pupp! Finally tested it out in my dog during 4th of July fireworks and we noticed a major difference. Disclaimer, they won’t make your dog immune to the fireworks sounds but they’ll help them manage their stress and anxiety. Followed the dosage instructions as no major reactions. Would recommend testing out with smaller portions first to be safe.

I do like this Composure Calming Aid for dogs. I show my dogs, and the ring stress does get to them sometimes. A couple of these chew able tabs seem to work in relaxing them just a little, but they are still bouncy and awake, not sluggish. No after effects, but they also allow your dog to be a little more relaxed during thunder storms, and fireworks. I would recommend them to anyone, at least try them and see if they work for your pet.

I started giving one of these to my small boxer mix dog about 2 weeks ago -- early in the evening -- by the time we got to the 4th of July, and what is now every night, she sleeps through the pops and explosions. If it wears off in the middle of the night, i give her another and she's asleep within 30 minutes.very effective. I was skeptical, but am now very happy with this product

I have a Jack Russell Terrier that I rescued. He's probably around seven years old now he has separation anxiety. I've tried everything. I even had him on medication from the vet that I had to give to him two hours before I even left the house. I found Composure online at Amazon and he's a different dog completely. I give him one or two chewables probably a half hour before I leave. He's not shaking or nervous when I get home. This is a godsend for me after 4 years of feeling so bad to leave the house.

I purchased these at the recommendation of a friend who insisted they worked for her year old golden. Well, they did not have the same effect on my frisky and energetic 6month old pup! No effect at all. Not worth the money,
