great for kids
As a father of 3 kids I wanted a bedside safe that would keep them out and still provide me with my handgun at arms length and ready for anything. This safe is just what i was looking for. It isn't fire proof or crowbar proof but for keeping the curious little ones away it works great. The buttons work with any were from 3 to 6 button pushes and you can make them combo pushes (2 buttons at a time),makes for a huge amount of usable sequences, so the combo can not be easily guessed. Has enough room for 2 full size handguns and a couple boxes of ammo. Breaths so guns wont sweat in the box. Easy to program. So far it has worked perfect only down side is that the battery compartment is a little hard to get to but i can see why they did that is to give max room for other things. All in all it is exactly what i wanted for a very good price.

Perfect for my needs
I already own the GV1000-DLX and love it. When I considered buying the GV1000 a couple years ago, I thought about getting this bigger one (GV2000), but didn't. Wish I had! Now I am using the GV2000C-DLX and will probably sell my GV1000. I have this bolted down next to my bed. It easily would hold 4 handguns without them touching. One thing the description isn't clear about, is the "DLX" version comes with a AC power adapter. You still should put the 8 AA batteries in it in case of power failure though (Batteries not included). I find this to be fairly strong gun box. I suppose a determined bad guy could break in if he worked at it. However, my bigger concern is grandkids, other visiting children, and "nosey" others. This will most certainly keep them out. Good price ($122), free shipping, and I feel a quality product. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again! UPDATE: I have had this safe for about 6 weeks now. So far, so good. No issues. I open it nearly everyday without any problem. Guess I got a "good" one based one what I read with many other reviews.

I Should Have Taken the Bad Reviews Seriously
Update: Company just called me back. Surprising, I guess they just had caller ID and used that to call me back (is that even allowed?), because I didn't give them my number. Even more surprising, they apologized for the poor customer service that they provided previously. In addition, they said they will send me a new safe in 2-3 weeks, because they have had problems with safes of this model that were built in the month that mine was built (March 2011), something about the batteries being drained quickly (which doesn't explain the issue I had with my safe). Will post again when I get the new safe. If it works fine, I'll revise my rating and review. I should give credit where credit is due, kudos to them for seeking to fix this situation and sending me a new safe beyond the warranty date. But still, aren't many of us buying these safes as a way to store our guns until (God forbid) we actually need to use our gun in home defense? What if someone dangerous breaks into my house, I reach for my gun, only to have the safe fail?!? Do I want to protect my family and me with this product?!? I'll need to consider this as I wait for the replacement safe. Initial Review: In short, the product broke, I called customer service, they were not helpful and instead were rude. I'm not saying that if you purchase this safe, it won't work -- any product from any other company can potentially be faulty -- but I'm just saying, is this something you want to take a chance on? I purchased this safe (DLX, without biometric) in May 2011. So it worked mostly fine for 2 and a half years; unfortunately the warranty is only for one year. One of the features touted by GunVault for this model is the external power source, which I think is a great feature. Who wants to be caught in a real life and death situation with dead batteries? It's great knowing the external source is there, so that you can access your gun when you need to even if the batteries died. I kept mine plugged in. In fact, I didn't even put any batteries in it. It worked fine. Every now and then, I would enter my code and it wouldn't open, but once I entered it again it would open. The other day, it stopped working. I could open with the key, but the latch wouldn't move to open the door when I put the code in. Leaving the door open, if I closed the latch and entered the code, it would accept it (and the internal light would come on), but the latch would not rotate. I tried reprogramming the code, still didn't work. I called customer service. The first person told me I needed to replace the batteries. I said I have it plugged in. She said that the external power source does not power the latch, but that the batteries do. I asked what the external power source does. She had no answer. I didn't remember if there were batteries or not in the safe at that time, so I checked, I told her there were none, so that for as long as I've had the safe, it has been working without the batteries. She basically didn't believe me. She said I needed batteries with an expiration date of at least 2018. I was a little frustrated, but I told her I'd put some batteries in and call them back if that didn't work. So I put some batteries in with an expiration date of May 2018. Still didn't work. I called again. This time another person answered. I explained my problem, he said that it's the batteries. I told him I just put in new batteries, that I tested them before I put them in (I have a fancy pulse-load battery tester) and they came up with 100% power. He asked for the expiration date of the batteries. I told him 2018, and he said that's not good enough, they have to have an expiration date of 2023. Is that making sense to anyone out there? That's total BS. Then, I explained to him that up to this point, I haven't even used batteries. He basically called me a liar (he said "there's no way for me to verify that"), but then he said that wouldn't matter anyway, because the external power source is only backup and that it doesn't provide enough power to open the latch. I was incredulous, I asked him if batteries provide more power than plugging into the wall, and he said yes (!!). I asked him what the external power was for, then, because nowhere in the manual or the advertising for this product does GunVault say the external power source is useless (and again, it's worked fine for me up until now, as I had not used any batteries in this safe). He started to talk over me. He said my safe was no longer under warranty, and that he couldn't do anything until I went to the store and bought batteries with an expiration date of 2023 or beyond. So I asked what if I did that and it still didn't work, would they repair my safe then? For some reason, at this point he got angry with me and started some rant about how he was trying to help and I was just trying to tell him what was wrong (which is just awesome, because what else does he expect customers calling technical service to be doing)? So I just said that according to the owner's manual, they would repair for a fee, even for out of warranty products. I read the exact language to him. He then accused me of reading the wrong manual. NO JOKE. He asked me what the name of the company on the manual was!! I told him GunVault. He then asked for the address on the manual. I gave that to him. He then said he has no way to verify if that was indeed the correct manual! He basically said I was making the manual up! Wow. He then said, regardless, they don't repair, and since I was no longer under the warranty, they couldn't help me. I said I wasn't sure when I bought the safe, maybe I bought it within the past year, he then said curtly that I'd have to prove it with adequate proof of purchase. No duh, Einstein. Anyway, so I just asked if this was a recent change, and he just said they don't repair. This... actually... happened. So many things wrong with this situation. If the safe only works with batteries that have an expiration date of at least 10 years, then they should state that, although I have never heard of this with any other product. And, if it's true that the external power source is useless, then they should make that clear. That can't be the case, though, unless by some miracle my safe was working with just the external power source for 2.5. Also, what is up with their customer service? I was not being rude or asking any tough questions, but I was accused of making stuff up! And apparently, the owner's manual is incorrect, they will not repair the product once it breaks (I assume that if you're still under warranty, they'll send you a new safe, but who knows). So do I go out and look for batteries with an expiration date of 2023? Is it even worth it? I suspect that even if I do, it won't matter. This is either a crappy product as a whole, or it's a fine product but mine is just bad, but if that's the case I'm screwed because as I was so rudely told, I'm no longer under warranty so I'm on my own. I just reread the bad reviews on this product. I guess I should have taken those to heart when I was purchasing this safe. These problems (code doesn't work, unhelpful customer service) seem to be common. I'm not saying that my experience is indicative of every GunVault product. And to be fair, I have the GunVault Microvault safe that I purchased in December of 2012 and so far it works fine. But given the very important reason why one would purchase this product, not sure if I can trust them. So I guess if I'm looking for a unclear product that will work for 2.5 years, this safe may do. If I'm looking for a reliable, well made and clearly spec'ed product that will last me more than a few years, I should perhaps look elsewhere.

Great 2 or 3 gun safe
My wife and I carry every day and store them in there when we get home. We have used this every day for three years now and have seen no wear or defects since then. It is big enough to store full size handguns. We keep two subcompact EDCs in there and a full size home defense gun with a rail light in there. We also keep a box of ammo or two in the back and sometimes the guns in their most common holster and extra mags. the buttons are easy to feel at night and the repetition makes opening easy. we once heard a load noise downstairs in the middle of the night and was able to open it quickly in the dark after just waking up. Luckily it was just the cat knock stuff the counter. I like that code can have multiple buttons so the it is impossible to break the code. For example, the four entry code might be 2; 2 and 3; 1 and 4; then all 4. Upon opening it spring loads open with a light on. It is battery operated but we also have ours plugged in. there is a spare key hidden nearby. It comes with ability (but not the hardware) to be bolted in to the wall or whatever surface it is on. the top shelf is plastic and so cut a piece of foam fabric and slid it in, which makes it a lot nicer for the top level.

So far so good. Nice safe. Works great. Matches my smaller one

Pretty good overall but if the door slams down, the battery pops out of its bracket. Foam covering on the ceiling fell off after 2 days. Works well and very easy to program

Works as it says. Would be nice if it had rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from sliding. Over all not a bad purchase, when it's on sale.
