Robust binoculars that punch well above their price
I obsessively researched compact binoculars over several days, reading every review comparison and Reddit thread and these came out top at their price point. Performance wise they were generally rated alongside the big boys of the binocular world at a fraction of the price. They give a bright, clear image and seem very robust.Despite being “compact” they’re still relatively large and they just about fit in the pocket of my waterproof.I debated about whether to go for 8x or 10x magnification, and in the end went for 8x for the ease of use. Comparing them to my partner’s 10x there is very little difference in the detail you can make out. Happy with my choice!

My go-to pair
Absolutely brilliant. I've gone through half a dozen binoculars over the years of various styles and sizes and have been looking for that elusive perfect pair and these getty pretty damn close. I've been using them for about 6 months now.I previously had another pair of 8x32 Opticrons which were a bit more compact than these but the field of view was a bit restricted when wearing glasses. These however have a wonderful wide view even with specs. The image is bright and clear across a good portion of the eyepiece. Focus wheel is smooth and precise. Near-focus range is about 2 m which is great for getting a zoomed in view of butterflies and the like during the summer. There's no discernible spherical or chromatic aberration. There's a tripod mounting point which is handy. They're both light and sturdy in the hand and feel very solidly built. The neck strap is nicely padded, one side is a soft rubber and the other more fabric-y so it's easy to find something that doesn't slip on jacket material and something softer when wearing a t-shirt. The lens covers are also good and don't fall off which is welcome. There's some lens flare when under bright sun or looking across water for example but this is a fairly minor gripe. As these are good quality I've found the image brightness is equivalent to a larger cheaper 8x42 so I'd save the weight and bulk and use these. They aren't the cheapest in the world but feel like very good value.

Binoculars
I bought these after returning another VERY well known brand (8x42). The other pair didnt suit my IPD (pupils). These are very well made, easy to use, and produce a very clear well lit subject. Ideal for bird watching. As these are 10x42 they are more suited to long distance viewing, and be honest how many birds perch 10 feet away from you?

Lighter, brighter, better
Clearer, brighter, sharper and lighter, with a bigger image, and with amazing close focus, these are the best binoculars I have ever had.My first was a 10x50 USSR-made pair that was given to me to see Halley's Comet in 1986.Truly there has been progress in optics since then. I have the 8x32 version. Even though the objective lens is smaller, the image is bigger and brighter than the old 10x50s.The 8x magnification is more practical than the old pair because shake is reduced. I have found it easier to see details.I didn't realise that close focus is even possible until recently. That's something that the old pair never had. With these I can see tadpoles and hoverflies while standing next to a garden pond. It is amazing. The focus wheel? A relative has an older 8x42 pair of a different make, I don't know which. His pair has a noticeable 'slop' in the focus wheel - which this Opticon doesn't have. Turning the focus wheel has an instant effect. The lens covers are useful and the eye side can be threaded onto the neck strap. The neck strap seems fine. It's pleasant to use. It's so much smaller and lighter it's just more useful and fun to have because it's easier to take it to more places. As for the price! These binoculars have an ability that didn't seem to exist at this size in 1986 at any price. Now it's available at an astonishingly low under £150.
