Accurate at higher temperatures.
I tested this in ice water, and it read 34 degrees F. Then I looked up the boiling temperature for my elevation and it read the correct temperature in boiling water (208F at my elevation). I tried following the directions that come with it to calibrate it in ice water, and it messed up the boiling temperature by a lot. I tried calibrating it again, and it thankfully errored out and re-set itself, so at least it measures accurately at higher temperatures. I don't recommend trying to calibrate it. I also tested it against a couple of mercury oral thermometers at around 100F, and it read one degree too high. I put a sticker on the back reminding me how much to subtract at 100 and 34 degrees. I'm using this for L. Reuteri yogurt making, so I need to know the accurate temperature at both 180F for pasteurizing non-UHT milk for 20 minutes, and temperatures around 100F for culturing. This thermometer is working for my purposes, especially at the higher temperature. It clips nicely to my pot, which helps so much. I also find it helpful that it shows the temperature to the nearest tenth of a degree. Even if it is not perfectly accurate to that level, it still helps to see the tenths so you can see if the temperature is going up or down.

Great for home brewing!
So, there are plenty of reviews here. The thermometer seems accurate enough for home brewing. Set to 211F to see if broiling water was measure accurately. It was so that’s good. Next test, room temperature was measure the same as my home HVAC temps and a traditional thermometer (72F), so that was good. Finally, I use an induction stove to boil wort, and I believe most people don’t understand why anyone would ask if the thermometer was induction stove compatible. After all, the thermometer measure the temperature, so who cares how the water is heated, right? Well, induction uses strong magnetism to heat the water and the magnetism can play havoc with electronics, and so this is where that compatibility question comes from. I tested this thermometer boiling water on my induction stove and it was unaffected by the magnetism used to boil the water I the pot, as far as I could tell. Temperature seemed to rise steadily up to about 208F, then around there it slowed and eventually (30 seconds later) measured 212F. For my purposes, this is fine. I’m more interested in knowing when it gets to 150F, and trying to keep it from going past 170F for steeping the grains, until I’m ready to start the wort boil. So yeah, I. Excited about this thermometer. I also like that it uses CR2032 batteries, as I have these around for other purposes. Another brand had another button battery type, which I don’t have spares lying around the house. I would have liked multiple holes in the part that holds the thermometer to the side of the kettle so I could vary the angle, like another brand had, but it turns out the one setting this has works for my kettle, unlike the traditional thermometer this is replacing. The display is tilted, which is useful, but if that fixed tilt angle isn’t right, the display is faint to read. Some models have an adjustable tilt and that too would be a good enhancement to have. So pretty pleased with this inexpensive digital thermometer. Directions claim there’s a full 1 year warranty on the device excluding the battery. I also like that it has an off button to help preserve the battery life. I am not sure if there is an automatic off as well.

Very helpful kitchen tool
This has become essential in my kitchen. I use this for everything from chicken to yogurt. Gives you fahrenheit and celsius so it would actually be a really good homeschooling tool that's what I use it for as well it seems to be very accurate, it's lightweight, easy to read.

Recommended for all your candy and deep frying needs!
I had decided to try to make my grandmother's homemade peanut brittle, which requires a candy thermometer; this one worked perfectly, it was accurate, lightweight, and very easy to use.

Missing a key feature
The thermometer mostly performs properly, but every other digital thermometer I've owned that has an "alert" temperature beeps when the temperature is reached. Not this thermometer. An alert that only works when you're looking at is not an alert at all. You can just look at the temperature yourself. Flashing green isn't good enough. Get distracted or something while making candy and turn your back, you may miss an important warning. Perhaps it was a mistake to not notice that the advertising copy says nothing about an audio alert, but, as I said above, it's a feature I consider standard for such devices. So be forewarned. I'm amending this review even before it's been published. I also reduced it to 1 star. I made a batch of taffy with this thermometer and it turned out WAY too soft and almost too sticky to handle for pulling. The taffy was undercooked. Then I did a second batch and put it and two other thermometers in the pan (I had an old dial thermometer and my daughter's liquid candy thermometer). Besides those, I took readings with my infrared thermometer. When I finally got to the right temperature according to my three other reliable thermometers, this digital one was showing a full 20 degrees F higher than the consensus. My first run was basically 20 degrees too cool. This is a defective product. It's going back.

Does its Job
to confirm whether or not it's accurate, I tested it in frozen and boiling water, and the readings were within the error margins of 0 and 100 C (that's 100 and 212 for you fahrenheit speaking people). The clamp holds it in place pretty well and the depth of the top can also be adjusted with ease.
