Highly Recommend
I used the Gifted and Talented COGAT 1 & 2nd grade book for my First son and we love it. The pictures are colorful, attractive and keeps kids engaged. The first few pages give detailed explanation of question and answers. They also have great examples that way one is not stuck. I like the answer key on the back because it explains why the chosen answer was wrong. I bought another one to use for my 2nd son. I highly recommend this book.

Seriously, a must have to get in!!
My daughter used this book and got into Gifted and Talented. The paper folding, math, abacus, and grouping was difficult at first, but SO helpful to practice BEFORE testing. Had we not gotten this book, I doubt she would have gotten into GT. Answers are in the back (and yes I struggled on a few questions and had to double check myself!)

Got into the gifted program and she did AMAZING on the test
recently purchased the 2nd grade gifted and talented CogAT test prep book for my 1st grader, and it turned out to be an excellent resource. Even though it was designed for second grade, we decided to use it, and the results were outstanding. My child performed exceptionally well on the test, scoring above 97% in most areas. The book covered all the necessary basics and provided comprehensive preparation for the test. It allowed my child to become familiar with the types of questions and the format of the test. In particular, the practice with hole puncher visual questions was extremely helpful, as it was a new concept for my child. The book's inclusion of analogy questions and pattern recognition exercises also helped my child gain confidence and familiarity with these types of questions.Given that this was my child's first experience taking a test, being well-prepared made a significant difference. The practice provided in the book enabled my child to approach the test with confidence and a clear understanding of what to expect.Overall, the 2nd grade gifted and talented CogAT test prep book proved to be an invaluable tool for my 1st grader. It covered all the necessary topics, introduced new question formats, and helped build confidence and familiarity with the test. I highly recommend it to parents seeking effective preparation materials for their children's cognitive ability tests.

Fun activity
Book is colorful, made of good quality paper.Everything (directions for the different question types with examples) is explained very well. Questions are pretty challenging at times, which is good. The book comes with 2 practice and one test. The few things I would like to see changed-Have a scantron or something at the end of the book so, kids don’t have to mark on the bubbles on the actual question, and maybe have an additional test. Little pricey but was still worth it.I used it for helping my kid’s prep for their CoGAT (the exam format) and more for road trips to keep them busy outside of puzzles and coloring. One of my child finished the entire book in a day.

Highly Recommended.
I'm so glad we bought this book. I'd highly recommend this book for the following reasons:1. It's quite comprehensive. The sections are clearly demarcated and covered with plenty of questions.2. There are two separate sections. The first section covers the skills in each area and then a full length test paper which we can either cover in one sitting (probably tough for a first timer, and I didn't want my daughter to make mistakes due to tiredness) or separately.3. The initial part to orient the parents is very helpful. It has different question types and examples clearly explained and therefore provides a structured approach rather than an intuitive hit-and-a-miss explanation especially when we need to explain our kids why some answer is wrong.4. An additional benefit is the way it's structured for the kids - it's mostly designed for the kids to navigate independently - the page markings and question markings with pictures is very helpful.Overall, I'd highly recommend this book.

Great preparation for the COGAT test
We got our daughter this second grade COGAT test prep book as our district tests all kids. She's a sharp kid, but we figured it would be good to have her prepare so she knew what to anticipate. We completed it in a couple nights and she thought it was fun, so we ordered the third grade book, and she did that in a couple days, too.Test scores came back: 97-99th percentile across the board, a slot in the gifted program, and of course a feeling of pride confidence. Obviously, there's more to this than just the books, but I absolutely think they helped her prepare and know what to expect and the logic behind some of the questions, so she viewed it as something "fun" rather than "a test."

“But it’s fun!”
I really like this book. When my son first saw the problems he did a double take, but I talked him through the first and he caught on quickly. I thought it was really helpful to make him explain the relationships/his logic step by step to me. I could see him picking up on how to analyze this kind of question.I was worried that he would view this as a chore because I have him work on it a little while his older siblings do homework. But last time I told him that he could be finished, he said “but it’s fun!” and kept going. He also liked the detective theme, so that was a cute bonus to get him started.

Book is not brand new
We purchased the book for the forthcoming tests for our kids. The books are very expensive considering the limited content. The printing quality is good though. Anyway, the book arrived last night and seemed to fit our purpose. Unfortunately, as I went over the content with my kids, we quickly found that several pages were pencil-marked. We only went through about 15 pages last night, and there were already 4 to 5 pages with pencil marks. The marks are mainly on some of the pictures but not the answer bubbles so the book is still useable.
