It will certainly last a lifetime. Not to mention, it is incredibly easy to clean. In terms of what it can do, here is what I have tried so far and how well it does with each: Grasses (wheat, barley, etc.) Does great! Gets a very high yield compared to other juicers I've tried. Leafy greens (kale, cabbage, spinach, etc.) Gets a good yield, but leaves a fair amount of pulp in juice. Particularly with spinach, it just turns to mush. So long as you run it through a strainer afterwards, it works well though. Citrus fruits (lemon, orange, grapefruit, etc.) Fantastic! High yield, little pulp. Soft fruits (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.) Again, a lot of pulp will get into the juice. The softer fruits are harder to extract juice from in general, because they just turn to mush, but works reasonably well nonetheless. Hard veggies (carrots, beets, turnips, etc.) Doesn't work very well. Very little yield compared to other juicers, and a lot of excess pulp left in juice. Though, if you run it through a few times, and strain out the additional pulp, it does okay. Nut butters- Fantastic! I use my juicer to make nut butter more than I make actual juice. Run the nuts through slowly though, because if you put too many in it can get very hard to turn the handle. Tahini- Works but the tahini will be fairly chunky. Run it through a couple times for smoother tahini, but it will never get perfectly smooth. Buckwheat flour- This is the only flour I have tried to make in it yet, but it works fantastic. The flour comes out perfectly powdered. Again, add the buckwheat slowly as the handle can get hard to turn. Sorbet- Add any frozen fruit, and fresh sorbet will pour out the other end. It's like a personal soft serve ice cream machine. Chop the fruit small before freezing it though. It takes a lot of strength to grind the frozen fruit, but it works! This juicer does so much more than just make juice! It has become my most used kitchen appliance and I use it for just about everything. Highly recommend it to people, even if you don't like wheatgrass. Review: Wheatgrass is fantastic food, this makes it easy! - I almost listened to the guy here who gave this a negative review and I'm glad I didn't. This is exactly what I've been looking for. It's easy to use, easy to take apart, rinse and stash away. Wheatgrass is one of the true superfoods. I used to get a daily wheatgrass shot at Wild Oats (until Whole Foods came to town and put them out of business. I've never forgiven Whole Foods for taking away my wheatgrass). I heard so many bad things about electric wheatgrass juicers that I was afraid to try them and had been interested in a manual juicer for a long time. I think I got really lucky here because this is probably the best manual juicer out there. When I first got it, however, I thought I had made a bad purchase decision. When I opened the package, I saw that the screen was already installed inside the juicer, so I just left it in there figuring it was supposed to be there. After 10 minutes of cranking, only a couple of drops of juice came out of the juicer. The only way to get anything green to come out was to pour water in the juicer. So, I did that for a couple of days and was going to give up on the juicer. Finally, I realized I should try removing the screen and as soon as I did, the juicer operated normally and produced juice within a couple of minutes. A couple more points: Definitely run the pulp through again, there is still a lot of juice left in there. I find it really easy to just put a bowl under the juicer to catch the juice and just grab the pulp with my fingers when it comes out and put it on a plate. Then later I run the pulp through a second time. Also, don't waste your time trying to juice vegetables with this, it's really made for wheatgrass. Anyone who has used wheatgrass for any length of time and knows the health benefits will be absolutely fine with that. The important thing to most of us is that we get our daily shot of wheatgrass juice. I highly recommend this. You can be a complete beginner and learn how to operate this right out of the box. It's low tech and it's tiny (which is great because you can store it easily). It looks like it will last for years and years. I absolutely love it!

The Man of Steel would keep this but it'd break his crystalline house so it's at the Kents farmhouse
I love this wheatgrinder This is in 2 parts, the quick n easy and a detailed and dirty TLDR's: this juicer is stainless steel, won't rust. It's heavy, and its easy to clean and put together, take apart. It's manual so it needs some muscle and work. It works but needs some degree of technique. It will last forever, and does not play well with other kitchen items (its arch enemy is made of glass). A good mod is 5/8 in I.D. washer for the back of the auger. Price wise its the best for all stainless steel. Rev up for the review Ok. I kinda didn't want to buy this thing. It's pricey, it weighs alot, it's manual. But compared to the quality electric wheat grass juicer (I should mention wheatgrass every other line just to avoid the carrot fiasco), this things is the best, price wise. I mean a wheatgrass only electric one(not carrots, the electric wheatgrassers go 4th of July on carrots,). The best electric is $800, might as well wait for $200 to pop and get the mac daddy or the daddy mac (or the fly girl or girl thats fly) of juicers, the Sooopaaaahhhh AAAAAAAnnnnnngellll . . . for a K. A friend has the tribest plastic (and the lexan ) ones for a few years and they are the best (for the price). But they aren't steel. See, there's a reason why plastic bullets and knives never caught on (well in most cases like outside jail or evil sneak past metal detections). Maybe in the future when fusion reactors is in every vehicle and home, and space travel is like having a private pilot's license, then plasma or plastics or composites will beat out steel. Also over time the tribest does its job but it begins to expand. I mean its minuscule, but the stainless steel will hold longer. The machining is great, but some parts aren't polished as well as others. The auger is well done, but some of the sides of legs aren't. But its stainless steel, so rust isn't a factor. Also this isn't precision German engineering like a DB-605, so the handle is a bit loose (like some other poster mentioned), and the auger has some space from the end cap. Overall its 4 stars, because the metal is good quality. It does have some plastic parts (like there's a holder / gasket for the auger in the back) but they are hard enough to be used as cutting boards. Since its metal and heavy, if one is not too careful, dropping it will crack tiles, scratch composite bake hot pads, dent lesser kitchen cutlery. Anything glass and porcelain should be kept far away. Han Solo juicing tip: Oh lefty loosey or righty tighty doesn't work or clockwise tight, counter loosen . . . the end cap is done so the auger action (which is counter clockwise) won't loosen the end cap. So the end cap tightens in reverse (counter clockwise). Remember this before you reach for the wrench. back to review: Normally hand tightening and hand loosening will work but sometimes you will need the wrench esp after a ton of wheatgrass. Juicing with this. Juicing requires a bit of learning and technique. The more produce you stuff into it, the harder it is to turn. If there is too much produce and one starts to force it, it might move the juicer around (loose clamp) or jerking of the handle back n forth will cause a loose handle. However, the more grass inside it, the juicer juices more efficiently (more stuff for the auger to crush). There's a middle point / fine line where its a bit of effort to turn, but I don't have to force it like loosening a tire nut. Cut large produce to fit the auger: The mouth is wide (compared to the l'equip mini juicer), but once assembled, the produce has to get in the screws of the auger, so while the mouth will fit, it'll sit and the auger will only tear a piece off. If you are using wheatgrass or spinach, that's not a problem. But carrots can have this issue, or fruits. Wheatgrass takes some . . . in its unmodified design, the endcap needs to build up some mass of material before the crushing power of the auger is brought to bear. Some previous posters used extra wheatgrass, wadding up grass, or even a apple wedges. I got around it by THE MOD (near the bottom). string fiber produce *cough* *cough* celery *cough* does wrap up the auger but I simply powered through and it doesn't effect it. But that was just a test. I only use this for wheatgrass and celery gets the l'equip mini juicer. You want to clamp it as much as possible. This is crucial. Weaksauce clamps will have it moving around and falling off, then skipping around to break, crack, or dent something. Like the glass top stove next to the counter. Like a new skateboard always falls on its nose once lost in the air, once this thing is mobile, it will cause damage. Clamp it hard, and give it a quarter turn. It only opens up to work on a 1" 1/2" thick surface or so. It is perfect for those extendable cutting boards, but you want to get something to pad it. I like using 1/4 inch metal plates or hard wood, or hard plastics Even though the clamp and stand have rubber feet, soft woods (like pine) will dent w/out something to add. The next thing is having a solid surface. Like a table. But if you are using the pull out cutting board that came with the counter, you can pad the slots the board came out of (like oven mitts or thick pot holders) so the cutting board doesn't move around. * *note you can have a loose cutting board, but then one hand will be used to hold the board or the juicer when cranking. Don't let the handle swing, try to stop it or point it down. Reverse be careful handle doesn't come off. Turning this requires some technique. If one lets go while the handle is pointed at anything other than six o' clock (pointing straight down), the chances are it'll swing, and in the process of swinging, disengage and fall off (to break something). The way they made the handle is it has a half cylinder to fit it on and twist to lock it, but if twisted (to go reverse) it will line up the half cylinders to allow it be pulled off. Or if going in reverse one has to pay attention and slide lock it again. So in the excitement of getting my wheatgrass shot, the handle was at 3' o clock and swung and fell off. Ninja foot saved my appendages but the tile hated me. The clearance for the bottom is shallow but I found out using mustard cups / bowls (like in those cooking shows where they have the small glass bowls filled with spice, chopped onion etc), and a small plate at the end to grab the veggie excrement. Once the juicer has some padding on the inside the pulp will dry out, but the first inch or so of pulp will be somewhat wet (but not centrifugal juicer wet). Screen. I can stand some pulp in my juice, so screen on or off is fine. I found out the screen helps fill in the inside so the auger can crush but the difference is like 20-30 blades of wheatgrass. But no screens yields extra several drops of juice. It does not matter as I wheatgrass alot. THE MOD: others have mentioned using a washer. AND I AGREE. The company should include one. It does make a difference. Like having Elvish steel when going against orcs . . . don't get me wrong, Dwarven or Man steel will kill just as well, just like an unmodded juicer will juice wheatgrass but the MOD is much more efficient. The MOD is basically this, get a nylon or high quality plastic one (don't use stainless steel or zinc because it presses against the plastic gasket / holder of the auger and mine got a slight dent). You don't want the neoprene or rubber washer either, because it gives too much play, and the rubber gave a funny taste to the juice (and it was strong smelling); fiberglass one got fine line cracked (but feels like its strong enough). The dimensions of the one I used was I.D. .665 or 5/8 in (inner diameter), O.D. 1.5 in (outer diameter), .094 thick . The washers can come from hardware parts stores, I had to order mine online. The washer goes against the back end of the auger. Then slide the auger into the back holder / gasket. Screw the endcap back on . . . done. auger: back ----||}}}}}}}> front washer: [] Mod: back ---[]||}}}}}}}> front It really lets the auger tip get alot closer to the endcap. THat's that, if I lost this one, I'd use the 2 I have for back up :D and get another one. 4 stars cuz it needs THE MOD. Oh I forgot, this is wheatgrass juicer. This juicer prefers wheatgrass but if the carrot has exceptional looks and personality, he may go after a carrot.

Does other vegetables, too!
I read some reviews here that this doesn't do carrots and other root type vegetables well. In my experience, it does! In fact, I haven't actually tried it on wheatgrass, because [to me] it's such a pain to grow it. Anyway, it does juice leafy greens quite well. I've also juiced cucumbers, carrots, spinach, beet root, cabbage, lettuce... Observations: 1. It can pretty much take anything! Just chop your vegetables so that it fits in the chute (a little extra work, but since you're looking at a MANUAL, hand-rotated juicer, that's just a little extra work!). 2. The pulp is quite dry looking, but feels a tad moist. I ended up re-introducing the pulp back into the juicer, and I'd say I got about 5% more yield. That's just a rough estimate. Not sure if running all the pulp to get an extra 5% is worth the trouble (maybe if your veggies are expensive as organic veggies tend to be?). Definitely not 10% more yield. Also, since I haven't compared it to another juicer, can't say if, for example, an Omega 8006, will actually produce more juice. 3. EASY CLEAN UP! Take it apart, and voila! Just run it under the sink and it's all clean in about a minute (no exaggeration there). EXCEPT... the mesh screen might be hard to remove once it's "gunked" up with pulp. Sometimes it takes me a minute just to get that screen out, so a total of 2 minutes to clean the whole thing. 4. STAINLESS STEEL, baby! I think if you put an iPhone in there (gotta chop it first, though), it'll juice it. This thing looks like it will last, well, forever! The unit itself (without the auger) is heavy. And the auger itself is heavy. Even the top-cap (or where the pulp comes out) is heavy. And the handle you turn? That's heavy too! It's even heavier than the crank of my bike (then again, I like light bike parts). All in all, I'd pay twice the price of that Lexen Juicer ( Lexen Products Healthy Juicer GP27 - Manual Wheatgrass Juicer ) that my mother has. She uses that for wheatgrass, but it looks like a toy compared to this heavy-duty looking stainless steel one. Minor CONS: 1. Good grief, you need a SMALL container so it catches the juice, and not catch the pulp. 2. This is good if you're juicing for only one person; I'd look at something like an Omega 8004 or Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer - Black and Chrome if you want to juice for two or more people. But still, I checked the reviews of the Omegas, and their auger is super hard plastic. This Hurricane one is a nice solid piece of stainless steel. For an all stainless steel one, that Super Angel All Stainless Steel Twin Gear Juicer- 5500 is available, but at 10x the price! Overall, I am happy with this juicer, and, maybe some units need that "washer mod" (check it out in the other reviews and, I think in the Q&A portion here in Amazon), but mine didn't need it. And, for me, it happily (and easily) juiced carrots and other hard veggies, and produced quite a good yield of juice (er, maybe my mother might not be able to crank the carrots without a lot of effort, but for me, it was just a little effort -- my 5 year old daughter could NOT rotate the crank with carrots, but my 9 year old son did it with some effort). Hope this review was helpful.

EXCELLENT MANUAL WHEATGRASS JUICER
Tried and returned 3 other manual juicers before this one. This is a keeper. The inner sleeve stays put, allowing the product to do its job. Grass does need to be run through a couple/few times to extract all the juice but that’s necessary for all manual juicers. The hurricane is solidly built and works as designed for small dose daily wheatgrass juicing. Easy to put together, suction attachment to counter is sufficient and the extra tamper and tightening tool are helpful. Great product.

I should have know better.: ( This juicer is meant for a ...
Made in China, I should have know better. :( This juicer is meant for a super strong person, as only my husband was able to actually turn the handle and even for him it was difficult. The rubber grips broke the first use and you need at least the 3 inches of counter overhang that other reviews complained about. The juicer worked great the first few times as far as getting the juice and pulp was dry so I decided that I might give it a chance even though I could not actually use the juicer without my husband! Then after a few good juices it began to waste my precious wheat grass and handfuls would get stuck inside no juice coming out. then pulp began to be very wet. I checked manual to make sure it was assembled correctly, it was... I tightened it as directed....and no change. I decided to send it back....2 days too late! Beware of the reviews! I believe these people used it a week and thought it was great. I did! Then as cheaply made products do, it stopped working!!!

Just in the nick of time.........
This came to me just in the nick of time. Two weeks ago, I bought A Samson NEW 2010 juicer. The auger, clip lock and barrel 'melted together' and the replacement parts are being mailed to me. (There is some question about the screen design and I'm being sent another type of screen) I've already cut, bagged and refrigerated a flat of wheatgrass, 1 flat ready to juice, 1 flat almost ready to juice and 1 flat sprouting, almost ready for a little sunlight........but had no juicer. I was back to the juice bar at $5/2 oz of wheatgrass, plus gas @ $3.75/gallon to drive there and back..... I was told a few days for the parts, but I guess they will get here when they get here. Also, Im letting you know that there is a 20% re-stocking fee if you return an item, regardless and after 30 days will NOT accept a return, as policy for some companies. You will have a 10 or 15 years warranty, so that's reassuring because I suspect I might have issues with my electric juicer again. The policy for the Hurricane from this company is 100%, it has a high re-sale value and can be used towards the purchase of another machine - Anyway, the same day the manufacturer promised to send out replacement parts, I ordered the Hurricane manual. I thought I might just eat the re-stocking fee, but since I don't have replacement parts, my 30 days will be up. The manual arrived just in time. It was so straight forward and easy to set up - very few parts. I cleaned the parts and put it back together. I attached it to my cutting board. I decided to juice with the screen because I thought it might extract more juice with it in. I had to figure out how to receive the pulp and juice (the receptacle needs to be short and small that would easily fit underneath the outlet - maybe later I will figure out a way to mount the device that gives height or distance between the bell and the counter surface - any ideas?). Anyway, I got perfect wheatgrass juice. The electric (seems all of them ) gives a head of foam, like on beer, but I got zero to very little foam. The pulp wasn't warm (like it sometimes is after re-feeding the pulp on my electric - btw, if this issue doesn't resolve with the new screen, it may be another reason to take advantage of the incredible warranty in the future). I like that the parts in this Hurricane are ALL stainless steel - so no 'FDA' plastic to worry about like with my electric. And the clean up was amazing, so easy, less than a minute. I had to tighten the device to the cutting board because while cranking it started to slip, so I have to be mindful of that before juicing. The other issue I had was that the blades got stuck in the auger and pulp stopped ejecting. I took it apart and reassembled, but that didn't help. I added an apple slice, thinking that would send the grass forward. Maybe that helped? but it started again when I started adding larger amounts of wheatgrass. I'm not sure, but it seems to give traction or tightens the space between the auger and the barrel or bell which seems to move the grass forward on the auger. It takes a little more effort for one or two cranks, but the juice just falls out beautifully. I can juice a lot of grass at once - so it takes less time than with the electric. I think I was used to my electric requiring me to place only a thumb-width of grass through the shoot at a time. It takes so much longer to juice wheatgrass that way. This few blades at a time doesn't seem to work for this manual - I think that's a good thing :) I'm not sure when I'll get the replacement parts for my Samson. I could keep both; for times that I just don't want to crank it through ( I'm sure there will be times where an electric will feel like a holiday from turning the handle). I can use my Samson and when the electric breaks down, I know I will always have a reliable method of juicing grass with my manual and a 15 year warranty on the other. I also like that the manual is small (no motor), so if I want to take the manual juicer with me away from home, for example to work, I easily could. I already know that I have no intention of keeping my Samson a lifetime, but eventually I'll get my money's worth out of the Samson (not having to wait 15 years). Maybe by then, I'll have better research and saved money for a better machine - with more/all stainless steel parts. But already I know I'll keep this Hurricane - and it looks like it's built to last a lifetime. Good investment no matter what (in my opinion). M.

Buy This Juicer If you are Serious about Juicing
Before I bought this juicer I had never drank or even juiced wheat grass before. I was pretty close to buying the cheap plastic juicer for $50 to $60 buck,BUT am glad i bought the HD Stainless steel juicer. Wheat grass can be very very tough to turn when you put a hand full of grass in the juicer. I reef sometimes on the handle and the juicer works great, if it was cheap and plastic i think you would need to do a couple blades of grass at one time. If you are serious about wheat grass and are going to stick to the routine then buy the stainless steal, IF YOU are going to soon get bored of waiting days and days to grow wheat grass and may give up, then buy the cheaper machine. I have about 4 - 5 trays goin in the winter time, i ran out of room to grow. I like that the machines is easy to clean and very heavy duty, it takes me about 15 minutes in the morning to cut, juice and clean the machine, if you don't have atleast 15 - 20 minutes to grind a ounce of wheat grass then don't buy any machine.

Product is very solid and durable. Works well!
Really enjoyed how easy it was to use and clean. Makes great wheatgrass juice as well as other fruits and vegetables can be used. Thumbs up.

Extremely well made.
You can't usually buy things this well made. It's extremely solid and well-machined. Unfortunately I bought it in order to make apple cider, and it's not ideal. It's a little small, and it forces far too much fine pulp into the juice. It extracts all the juice all right, but doesn't make a clear cider. Still tastes great though.

Extremely easy to assemble and clean
This juicer is built tough, it's made of stainless steel and will for sure outlive any electric juicer. Extremely easy to assemble and clean. It does require some force to turn the handle so you can't stuff it full of wheat-grass at once. You have to use smaller amounts. If they made the handle just a little bit longer it would be much easier to extract the juice. Also you'll need a solid table to clamp it to, I wouldn't recommend attaching it stone counter-top. As to the quality of juicing, it does leave the pulp very dry. I'd say it juices wheat-grass better then my twingear Greenstar juicer. Note: this product is intended for wheat-grass and/or dryer fibrous greens and it works very poorly on juicy leafy greens. Also if you're expecting to juice larger quantities of wheat-grass I'd suggest you get something electric. My wife would get tired after juicing 2-3oz of juice and it became my task from then on.

Solid build , met all my expectations
A friend recently bought a similar product NOT stainless steel. She is already avoiding using it since the material is wearing and more then likely leaching into her "health drinks". I read it does heat up so I crank slowly and run the grass through twice. Products like this make Amazon look good! Thanks team Amazon
