It’s a cute story!
We love this book. I am so sad at how many people gave this book a bad review over Patrick’s mom. My son read the book and said, “Patrick has two moms in his family, we have one mom and one dad!” And that was that.As far as the level, it’s perfect for a kindergartener. My 5 year old can read it unassisted. It makes him giggle every time.

disappointed in content
I purchased this book for my 6 year old. I am so glad I read thru the book before giving it to her. I only wish i read the reviews before purchasing. I would not have purchased. Introducing the topic of same sex parents is not appropriate for young children.

Be ready to teach your young reader about same sex marriage
I was a more than a bit disappointed to find one of the parents of the children was same gender parents. I was not ready or prepared to expose my young reader to that. I didn’t think it was necessary or appropriate to put that in a book of that reading level.

Awesome series! My first grader loves them
Awesome series! My first grader loves them. The character are quirky and refreshing. If you are in denial about the fact that same sex couples exist, you probably won't want your child reading it because one of the main characters has *gasp* 2 moms. I thought it was a fantastic teaching moment for my daughter to re-enforce the tolerance that we've been teaching her. It was barely a blip on her radar. It was only a passing comment of something to the effect of, "Patrick's moms both hugged him goodbye" and that was the only mention of it in this particular book. Hardly agenda pushing.
