I know they are designed for childproofing a door to keep it from slamming on little fingers, but it works perfectly for keeping our storage room door open so that our cats can get to their litter box. If the door were to accidentally close, the cats might go in the house. They are super thick and soft but sturdy. They fit tightly on the door and have never fallen off. We are using one on a white door and it has not left any marks on the door or door jam. Highly recommended.
