Small brush that could do a big job
This brush is is 7 inches long, with a soft plastic handle and "grips" along the side of the handle. It has 6 blades on it, each about 1/2 inch long. The seller calls this comb a "Pet Dematting Comb" which is what it would best be used for. This comb would be best for pets with hair that gets tangled. It would not be a good brush for pets with short hair.In the "elbows" of the blades of this brush, there are sharpened edges for cutting out tangled and matted hair. These are very helpful when pet hair is very tangled and matted, and simply brushing out the tangles will not work. The back of the package says that this Dematting Comb might be suitable for small pets, like dogs, cats and rabbits, which makes sense to me. It also says that it might be suitable for large animals, like horses. I don't have horses, but I have to believe that this comb would be too small for use on a horse, unless the tangle was relatively small.Overall, the comb seems quite sturdy and the blades are securely embedded into the handle. And there is a hole in the end of the handle to tie a small rope or string for hanging on a pegboard. This comb will suit my needs just fine.

Sharp and effective, but be careful!
I needed something heavy-duty for my badly matted long-haired cat. Yes, this actually will do the trick, but only to a certain point. If you can get hold of the underside of the mat, and hold it tight, this will surely "cut through" it with those sharp blades. But if you just try to pull out mats with this, it still pulls on their skin and that's painful. I ended up having to get my cat shaved, and will try to be better at mat control in the future. Still...this could be a useful tool if used carefully. Could be dangerous to fingers, too, if you're not careful.

I must be using this thing wrong because it just makes my cats miserable. We have much more luck with the fine tooth combed brand that is so darned expensive and popular.

Great concept but only works in certain directions and also
Great concept but only works in certain directions and also, doesn't pull thru pets hair easily (even fur that is not matted). I bought this to prevent matts with regular use. Unfortunately I can't use regular because it pulls to hard and my cat won't sit for it. My cat is a long haired Manx with double coats of fur (long and short/denser coat closer to skin). This brush does an awesome job of pulling fur from his undercoat (like no other brush - totally amazing) but it pulls to much in doing so (even though there's no matts or knots or anything). You would think the wide spaced combs could prevent pulling in the absence of matts but no such luck. I've tried making strokes shorter, using my other hand to hold at roots, etc. I even tried using oil on the brush and my cats fur (coconut & olive) as well as pet conditioner...still pulls :( If your animals fur is not so dense underneath, or your animal can take a little tugging, this comb will probably work for you. Otherwise probably just best to save your money!

Pet dematting comb very little help
I have a Bichon with very thick hair that matts easily. This tool will eventually go through a Matt but it takes much effort and a very long time to get the job done so I am not really sure that it is helpful at all. Very time consuming. I would not purchase another or recommend it to anyone.

Works great on long-haired cats
If you have a long-haired cat that tends to get the occasional mat, this little comb does a fantastic job of quickly breaking up the mat. It's not so much a comb as a "mat-slicer" that hooks under the matted fur and slices it into small, easy-to-remove pieces. One of our long-haired cats loves to lie against a window screen, which makes her fur mat up where it's pressed against the screen, and this little comb works nicely to keep her coat mat-free.We've used these "combs" for years on our cats, and recently got one for my sister, or more specifically, her cat. Like our kitty, hers doesn't like to hold still and be combed for more than a few seconds, fortunately with this little tool that's all it takes.

Good for house cats
So I had a bad semester, my cats were cranky about living with my roommates' cats, and they stress ate and got a little pudgy. Mats got away from me. It was no good and entirely my fault.I had never used a dematting comb before and most of them are made for dogs and have reviews from dog owners. This looked like the smallest and it was the right size for (even pudgy) house cats. You have to go REALLY REALLY slowly. My cats love to be brushed and they hate having their mats combed out. The tugging definitely doesn't feel good but it was this or having a groomer shave their butts. I think one little mat a day is a good start followed by apology treats (I also followed up with their beloved Zoom Groom to remind them that all other brushing is awesome).
