Worked for me...used it on a rock weiler who charged the fence trying to get to me as i walked by...stopped him in his tracks..

I just tested this and it sprays a STREAM, not a SPRAY. You should really test this out to become familiar with it. It does spray a PURPLE stream which i'm assuming is the dye. I can smell it faintly after I spray it. Hopefully will never need to use it, but with a stream coming from this, you really need to be good at aiming. The mace bottle does not fit well in my hand (it has grooves). The index finger groove is almost directly under the hole where the mace comes out, so you better be careful about using it and possibly touching your face/eyes/nose. I can only imagine it would be tougher for females with smaller hands. Minus 1 star for grip comfort and that it's a stream and not a spray.

Glad we have not had to use this but grateful we have it. We should all be prepared for self defense in a non lethal manner. This should always be the first step in defense. It’s very ergonomic and has a grip to ensure you are pointing away from your own face. Highly recommend this for older kids, women and adults.

This is just a replacement for the one that expired. My wife and daughter both carry this one. We've been buying this one for years. I have tested the ones that expired and they shoot pretty far and they shoot quite a bit. This one would be my recommendation, because you can conceal it, it's easy to carry. It's small, and it's not in the way and it's easy to use. We have never had one leak.

I trust the Mace brand for this kind of consumer product fairly well. I've had them in the past. The literature states that unlike many others sprays this product is a mixture of pepper (capsicum) and CS (tear gas type). This is not a toy and should be used by adults at arm's length pointing away from you with great caution. Never spray it at someone to see if it works well -- it is a real breathing and choking hazard, most acutely for anyone with a deficit like COPD or elderly etc. It's a product you keep and hope you never need like a fire extinguisher, but that means you do have to check the chemical for going flat occasionally (a small whiff at a distance of a quick Spritz fired in the opposite direction is more than enough) or replace it regularly to be sure it is going to be fully effective if needed after lengthy storage. Leakage with this system should not be a problem and the capacity is reasonable to get you through at least one emergency.
