Is there any problems or issues with camera drifting when locked down in the vertical position

I have no problem with a smaller mirrorless body and telephoto lens. No idea whether a full-size DSLR would be stable.

Can I fold a tripod and have the handle line up with the tripod legs so it forms a compact ensemble for travel? Or does the handle stick out?

You can fold it to make a fairly compact package. The box it comes in is only 3x3 1/4" in cross section. However, it's quite easy to take the handle off to make a smaller package.

Is this compatible with the falcam 38?

Can this fit on a Manfrotto tripod?

I used the 1/4-20 thread on bottom to put on an Arca mount so I can quickly get this on and off an Arca-Swiss tripod -- I assume you could mount a Manfrotto plate on the bottom to do the same for a Manfrotto tripod.
