What is this switch for? i have it in my rv and don't know what its for? layman's terms please

The switch turn on or off your inverter. The inverter is the electronic unit that converts 12 volt electricity to 120 volt electricity. They are installed in RVs so that when you travel and are not connected to the "shore line" (meaning the RV park's electricity), or when you dry camp (camping off the grid) you have 120 volts to your fridge so your food stays cold. In standard RVs the factory only supplies this to your fridge circuit and no other outlets. Again typically the inverter unit is located in the RVs "garage" or storage space and so the remote unit saves you from crawling around to reach the switch that is on the inverter unit itself. Again, typically these large 1000 watt or 2000 watt inverters will have an available outlet on the unit. You can use that outlet in conjunction with your fridge circuit as long as you do not overload. But the more juice you pull the quicker your batteries will deplete. Be aware of needing to recharge your batteries which you can do by running your vehicle

How long is the cord?

FYI: I needed to reach about 5’ longer than this remote cable allows, so I bought a 6’ RJ-11 telephone cable, and one of those female-to-female adapter plugs, but after plugging the cables together, the remote switch didn’t work. Doing research, I discovered that the female-to-female extension adapter actually reverses the order of the individual wires in the RJ-11 cable. (I guess it doesn’t matter when used as a phone cable-I even tried 2 different adapters). So I bought a phone cable splicing tool that came with some of the RJ-11 phone plugs (on Amazon), and cut off one of the 6’ extension cable’s connector plugs, and carefully reinstalled a new connector with the wires reversed (the wires are color coded, so it’s not that tricky). Afterwards, the remote works like a charm.
