Can the pot be put on stove top to heat cheese?

Yes, I always start on stove and then move to burner.

Can you use the pot separately? On the stove or in the oven?

The fondue pot is enameled cast iron. You begin the fondue by melting the cheese and seasoning it in this pot on the stove top. Then when it is melted, and seasoned, you move it to the table top burner. I imagine it would function as an oven pot just the way all enameled cast iron pots do....but not for cheese fondue, of course.

Can this be heated over the stove top?

Yes. Put a little wine in the pot on a cold stove. Then turn on the heat
