Amazing. Feels like a DualShock 4 for Xbox.
I never loved the controller that came with my Xbox Series X. I found my fingers and hand piling or gripping toward the top of the controller. I had purchased the Xbox plug and play rechargeable battery kit and after 1.5 years, it had difficulty retaining a charge. The headphone jack gave out and had to send it in for repair. The Series X controller has always been too clacky and loud (especially the rounded d-pad). After searching for a new controller, I landed on the 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller. While it seems aimed at retro games, I've had an amazing experience playing Cyberpunk 2077, Solar Ash and some indie games with it and it's perfect for modern games - especially if you have ever used a PlayStation DS4 and miss that shape. It's wired (and it an ample, long wire) so I never have to worry about recharging batteries or anything. The face buttons and d-pad are excellent and have a less-resistant press than the Series X controller. The triggers are comfortable as well. I highly recommend downloading the free 8bitdo app so you can customize trigger settings, vibration intensity (and the 2 vibration zones), or if you want to customize any buttons. I don't plan to use the customizable assign/turbo buttons on the back and I do feel myself pressing them randomly as I play. Since they aren't mapped to anything, it doesn't interfere with gameplay but I do kind of wish they made a version without these. That's nitpicking at this point as this is a solid, affordable, comfortable and high quality controller. I always play with headphones and the headphone jack seems great so far. I've had zero issues with this controller and think it's an amazing value.

Best wired controller by FAR.
If I could give this 6 stars I would. This is quite possibly the best controller I’ve owned in terms of performance. The only ways I could imagine would improve it would be visually (colors, wraps, etc) and Bluetooth/wireless that is compatible with Xbox. The triggers are extremely sensitive making them great for both racing and shooting games. The re-map-able paddles on the bottom are easy to change on the fly (hold both the button you want to activate as well as the paddle that should activate that button, then push the small star button and the paddle is remapped instantly). The ergonomics are great as well. The controller is not too big but also not too small. Perhaps the only real negative thing is that I have found myself accidentally hitting the paddle button because they are slightly sensitive as well. That has more to do with my hand positioning I believe, but it would be nice to have a paddle lock to keep them off when you’re not using them. Ten out of ten, would recommend this controller to any PC or Xbox gamer.

A must for 2D games
I own a lot of different Xbox controllers, from the standard pack in controllers and cheap wired options from PowerA, to the elite series 1+2, the full lineup of all 4 Razer wolverine controllers and even the Thrustmaster Eswap X. That is not a flex by any means, admitting you have a problem is the first step to getting help. And help myself I did to this new controller offering. I think myself highly if not overly qualified to anonymously review this new $45 pro controller offering from 8bitdo. What good? -Best d-pad you'll find on an Xbox controller without compromising on features or ergonomics, Microsoft will invest millions into a controller design and research but can't make a good d-pad. Finally, 2D games have a reason to exist on the Xbox platform. -Remap any button to literally any button, this is a great quality of life change for the boomers out there, no longer shall you go from Xbox to Nintendo and back where everything now feels backwards. -On the fly headset volume levels adjustment through a multifunction button combination, keeps it clean and free of unecessary volume up and down, microphone up and down, or just ugly slider knobs that PowerA for some reason decided looked good enough to slap on their new controllers. -Buttons are good and responsive, I would love the elite series 2 controller more if the face buttons didn't suck, so when your buttons respond better than the $180 controller you doing good in my eyes. Not so good? -Analog stick adjustment isn't as comprehensive as one would probably want, and likely useless to most. It does offer some options like swapping stick inputs or mapping the left stick as a d-pad, where it falls short is the only thing you can adjust about the sticks is the center deadzone size. I would have loved to see acceleration curve/sensitivity adjustments. -LT and RT are not instant actuation triggers, what this means is you need to press the trigger down about 10% of its full actuation before it will even register the smallest value of a trigger press. Not ideal at all for FPS games. -The extra back buttons are (for me at least) part of your grip itself, making them quite easy to accidently press. This is avoidable if you don't map them to anything, but I like my extra buttons. All in all, it's a solid 4/5 for me as that d-pad really makes playing classic game ports and compilations all the more enjoyable. While flawed, the very budget friendly $45 pricetag makes this a solid offering if you don't view it as the only controller you'll ever use and bin the controller that came with your console.

I like the ergonomics of this controller as well as the sticks and the buttons. My main point of criticism is the vibration which is very unsubtle and I usually turn it off in games. Also de d-pad is not very good and it squeaks, but I don’t use it much so it’s not a big issue for me.

this controller (pro 2) is miles better than the new 8bitdo ultimate Xbox controller and other 3rd party and 1st party controllers in many ways. its easy on my hands and doesn't hurt them, it has a great snes dpad and left and right bumpers. and i highly recommend. thanks/kudos 8bitdo. please make a new iteration of this controller or some new colors in the future.
