I grew up in Southern California and knew I had mild allergies to various things, but it never affected me too much. Recently, I moved with my family to Texas and boy did things change! I started sneezing so often that my wife stopped saying "Bless you" and started saying "Alright, that's enough". I've always wanted to take an allergy test but I'm not a big fan of shots and didn't want to get poked or prodded. But I was on Facebook and saw an ad for this test and noticed it uses hair strands instead of a finger prick. So I decided to find it on Amazon and give it a try. And I'm glad I did! I was genuinely shocked at how many items they can test for with just a few strands of hair. It told me all sorts of stuff I was intolerant to. Some stuff is more severe than others. Long story short, we identified 3 trees in the backyard that seemed to be doing most of the damage. We removed them last week and I feel better already! My wife actually ordered the test so we can replace the plants in the yard with stuff we're both not intolerant to. Overall, the test was super easy to use and barely an inconvenience. The results came fast and were easy to read. Since my wife is ordering another test, I obviously recommend it!

This environmental testing kit was very easy to use, and everything was explained clearly in the materials that came with the kit.The kit directs you to remove 15 hair strands, hopefully with some root attached and place them in a little bag. You have to go online and make an account using your kit code BEFORE you send in your sample for testing, and you need to write down your login and password, which they provide a card for.They give you a pre-paid envelope to return the sample in, and it's sent via US Post Office, so you can send it right from home, which is easy.I received the results fairly quickly, I'd say within 10 days. I had been busy and I hadn't checked, but the first time I did check, the results were available.I have severe allergies and a life threatening condition called exercise induced anaphylaxis, so I was interested to see how these results aligned with what I already knew and also if there were things I was never tested for that might be causing me issues.The results mostly lined up with what I already knew. For example, it said I had a more severe reaction to cat saliva than to cat dander. I know this is true, which in my mind lent credibility to the rest of the results.There is an exhaustive list of items tested with this and I am not smart enough to understand the science or even know how to act on the results, but I did find this to be an interesting process.

I almost bought this. I had it in my cart. I'd lazily assumed that since these 5strands tests require hair samples, they sequence DNA.Then I started reading the company's claims about "bioresonance" -- uh, that doesn't sound right. And indeed. This is completely pseudoscience with no legitimate scientific backing.I don't know how they actually produce the results they give you, but they have no way to ascertain your allergies from "bioresonance testing." You can read more about why it's pseudoscience in an article titled "Why Bioresonance Hair Testing Is Preposterous" by Stephen Barrett, MD (a real doctor). The company that makes this item (Affordable Allergy Test of Lawrenceville, Georgia) is actually named in the article. Also check out the article "These so-called bio-resonance tests for food intolerances are hair-brained" by reporter Andrew Penman in the UK newspaper Daily MIrror.I guess the name "5strands" tries to imitate the legitimate company "23andme." But this 5strands thing is worthless pseudoscience. Avoid.There are legitimate allergy test kits sold on Amazon, the ones that require a blood sample. This isn't one of them.

I've always had different types of allergies since I was a kid but was never quite sure what exactly caused me to break out in a rash, heavy sneezing and/or congestion. I decided to take this environmental test from 5Strands and couldn't be happier with the results.My hair sample was tested across almost 200 different environmental items within: agriculture, fabrics, spices, chemical ingredients and more. I was impressed with the detailed testing and finding out which items could cause some more serious reactions within me. I was already aware of a few of the items, but most of them I had no idea, and a couple even resulted with "So that's why!" moments that clicked immediately in my head.I've already started making some changes to my detergents, soaps and outdoor plants. I'm hoping it helps my newborn daughter as well, in case she inherited my genes in that regard! I highly recommend this product!

Not too accurate, but somewhat is. Many of them are things that I am never around. But for the ones I am around a lot, I never noticed any issues with them, but this test has shown a level 3 for all of those. So not too sure about how accurate it is. Get a reliable test instead, don't think this is worth your money.

This is easy to do. Just send in some hair strands and wait.I’m not sure how accurate it is, because I can’t see how it can actually tell you anything valid, but interesting to try.

So glad we now know which foods to avoid. My kid's health has improved and I was shocked how accurate the results were in identifying the hereditary allergies we already knew about.
