Q: Is the clamp forged or cast?

Cast and they break really easy if dropped.

Q: Are these soft enough to drill through, or are they hardened?

I haven't drilled thru them, but I believe you can they should be soft enough to do so.

Q: What is the length of the block along the "V" feature?

The length of the block along the V-feature is 1-5/8". The full dimension is 1-5/8" X 1-1/4" X 1-1/4" and has a 1" capacity.

Q: Why does this product have two different pictures for the clamps??

Each block has two v-grooves. The depth of each is different to give you a wider range of clamping diameters. If you look at the left hand piece, remove it's u-clamp then rotate the block 180 degrees and re-install the clamp, you get what's shown on the right. These are meant to be used in pairs. Put one end of the round stock you're going to work in one of the clamps and the other end of the round stock in the other with some space in between and go to town.
