Q: Does this pump have an automatic switch or does it have to be turned on/off manually?

It's a manual drain pump which has simply plug in&run operation, so yes, you need to turn it on/off manually. Please pay attention that this pump can not run dry.

Q: Can i use this on a pool cover

Yes, our little utility pump could be used for pool cover application, but pls pay attention the power cord length as we only provides 10 feet, and you may need to connect a cable reel if the pool cover is quite big.

Q: Pump is broken what should I do?

Read the box and see if it is under warranty. Depending on the warranty information, I would contact the manufacturer and ask how they will make it good. I have one that has been a very good and reliable pump. Have used it and used it and used it with no problems. They should cover it if it is still under warranty.
