Useless for what I bought it for
If you are thinking of using this to convert and "AUDIO" signal from Firewire TO USB. Forget it, it's not possible. I have a Firewire soundcard that I wanted to convert to USB for my laptop. The description is Vague. I guess you really need to do your homework on this type of thing before thinking that ALL types of Firewire DATA( Audio included) will convert through this adaptor even though the description "kind of" implies that. Not a biggie though. Only a couple of dollars and the shipping was VERY Fast, and that's why it's getting 5 Stars. :-)

Doesn't work :-(
I read the typical "it works great" vs. "it doesn't work" reviews on Amazon, so who to believe? Only way to know was to order the adapter and see for myself. And I can confirm by saying I'm in the "IT DOESN'T WORK" crowd. My two hardware setups: Firewire Nikon slide scanner and Firewire LaCie CD/DVD burner, with EITHER my 8-year-old 17" Firewire-equipped MacBook Pro or my new 13" USB-C (x4) equipped MacBook Pro.The results: Both the Nikon and LaCie devices work perfectly plugged into the Firewire port on my 17" MBP (I do have a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter being used, but that's of no consequence). Both devices work with no problems. But to connect those same devices to my new MBP I bought this adapter, HOPING it would work. I already had a USB-C to USB 2.0 adapter to connect legacy USB devices. Plugging either device (scanner or drive) into this USB 2.0 Male to Firewire IEEE 1394 6P Female Adaptor converter resulted in failure on BOTH MBP's!! I tried connecting directly to the MBP ports on both computers without going through any external hubs. IN ALL CASES using this USB to Firewire adapter I got ZERO connection. In fact, when I plugged it into my 13" MBP one of external drives dismounted from the desktop and spun down. I don't know if it has to do with a power thing -- the Firewire devices are trying to pull more power off the ports than the ports can handle. But regardless, this adaptor refused to work. Although it was just under $6, I'm still returning it.

Not for Video Capture
Just a word of caution, firewire-to-USB is not for video. Video capture to PC requires constant stream. You can google that info if you wish. I just want to save you some aggravation if you are getting this as a magic workaround for not having a firewire port. It's good for date, but not for video capture from a camera or other playing device. It's great for all other purposes.

Very reliable and Practical
I have found this to be a reliable adapter. It is well built. I connect a camera through firewire to usb since my computer has no firewire port. Slower than firewire, but if you won't have the space or wish to install a firewire card then this is a great option.

Doesn't work
I can confirm like many others before me that this product does not work. I should have listened and saved my time and money. But, no. I had to find out for myself. I attempted to use it to connect an external hard drive apparatus that originally worked with a PCMCIA Firewire card slot in my old laptop. Of course my newer laptop and desktop don't have a PCMCIA slot or firewire ports, so I gave this a try. I'm computer savvy enough to have built my desktop computer from component parts, and I have multiple degrees in the field. But, after a few hours of trying to find and install a driver that'll make this thing work, I'm giving up in defeat. It shows up as an unknown device in Device Manager. I've tried downloading and installing various IEEE 1394 drivers, but nothing has worked. Windows 10 will not recognize the device and doesn't know how to interact with it. I'll no doubt be better off finding and installing a real firewire port card in my desktop tower. This thing is absolutely not a plug and play device. False advertising. Save yourself the trouble. Find another solution. This isn't it. If you insist on buying this thing, I'll be glad to sell you mine. It's been in my possession for less than a day and is in brand new condition!
