You should buy 'kitty steps'. My 20 yr. girl has no problem getting on the bed, before she would sit & howl, & I would have to pick her up~sometimes @ 3am. They are sturdy so your kitty will feel safe,hope that helps, meoOOw & Aloha*

Q: The base is in two pieces? I imagine my cat knocking it over very easily. How sturdy is it when a 10lb cat uses it?

We've got two cats, both more than 10 pounds, and we've had excellent success with it. Very sturdy, and they love the toy attached on top. My only complaint is where the rope and carpet meet, the edge of the carpet frays a bit when tbe cats claw at it. Maybe once a week, I would trim the bits with some scissors, no problem. All in all, the cats like it.

Q: Can i buy the carpet section separately from the base and sisal portions of the scratch post? My cat goes through them quickly.

Sorry. I did not buy this particular post. My cat will only use carpet scratchers.

Q: Is carpet on the top?

Carpet on the bottom. My only disappointment is at the union of rope and carpet, the carpet edge is beginning to fray after about six months. My cats don't mind however, and the toy on top is an added bonus. 7..5 of 10 would be my rating.
