Bottom line - would recommendI have been using the standard c shape dough hook that came with my stand mixer for the past decade. After all these years, the ceramic coating finally started to chip. While exploring replacement options, I noticed this spiral dough hook and decided to purchase it. Reviews were very positive and the price was good.First impression when I opened the box was that this is a well fabricated piece of equipment that should have great durability.I have since used it a few times to make a loaf of bread and enough pizza dough for a couple sheet pizzas. The mixing action seems much more efficient than the standard dough hook, even when using at a speed of 2 (I usually used a 4-5). Additionally, and more importantly, this produces a lot less 'wear and tear' on the stand mixer. The different mixing action seemed to bind a lot less on the sides and as a result (along with slower mixing speed), the mixer was noticeably cooler after I was done mixing the dough.Although I have only used a few times, I am very happy with this.

Have a Classic 4.5 qt Kitchen-Aid Mixer. Have never been happy with the dough hook and saw a message that this one was good. I bought this dough hook and threw the original away. This one is awesome and does a great job.

I like the material, stainless steel as expected. Also, all the comments about damaging the bowl… it is stated in the specifications that you may have to adjust the height of it.Results? I love the facts that this new shape, spiral instead of hook, doesn’t constantly lift the dough over the top ring. However, it takes a little longer the incorporate properly all the ingredients. At the same time, mixing the dough few extra minute it may actually be a good thing in order to develop a better gluten.Conclusion? Highly recommended. Give it a try.

The spiral design is much better than the hook attachment that comes with the KitchenAid stand mixer.The stainless steel construction looks and feels sturdy and of high quality. Its easy to clean.

seems to work properly. i got the sd5hd because i have the 5q bowl lift, not the 5q+, the 5q, the one marked HeavyDuty which only comes with a C-hook and, although Kitchenaid used to make an optional spiral hook, it is impossible to find in the EU since the Heavy Duty is out of production. so i had the hook shipped to italy and tried it today.works fine and the mixer didn't need any adjustment. it seems to have some trouble with very small batches so if you're kneading less than 200g of flour of pizza dough, you might wanna use the c hook at least to start off and switch to this one when really trying to give tension.anyway, they took two days to ship it but then it came in two more days. fortunately the estimated vat and import tax were correct and i ended up paying the price i agreed to when placing the order.

Make sure you check your mixer for the model number to be able to order the right dough hook for it. I am glad I double checked as I almost ordered the wrong one.It works great. The dough doesn’t ride up the hook like the original. This hook doesn’t leave flour in the bottom of the bowl.I washed it in the top rack in the dish washer.The hook was worth buying.

Bought this for my Artisan 5 quart KitchenAid stand mixer and it out-performs the original dough hook. Very solid and heavy and does a great job. Very happy with this purchase
