If your device has been logged on to each access point then it should be seamless. Mine is!

Is a tp-link controller needed like the ac50 ?

This has a built in web interface to be able to configure settings. Please note that you will need a Poe switch or injector as this doesnt come with a power supply.

Will this item work without a Poe injector/switch

Sadly not - the PoE: Power over Ethernet interface is required to power the device. This does have the added advantage of being able to install the device in a remote location without the need of a local power supply / socket, it can result in a tidy install with out the need to run additional wires. If however - you have a local power socket then there are many other solutions to provide WiFi access point functionality if you are Ok with the cables. Hope that helps.
