Took a solid month to get here but worked well
The disk works well and comes with clear instructions in the form of readme files.Used it to fix up an old laptop someone gave us that was fubared to heck and back with malware etc were the only answer was to wipe it and start over with a total hard/clean install of an operating system. As we didn't have the disk for this op system we ordered a version of linux.Happy to report it was a success because of this disk. The computer couldn't even start in safe mode if you picked it and started in safe mode if you tried to factory reset it. It was too messed up for anything less than a total wipe. I have never seen anything so incredibly messed up.The other disk we got in case this one didn't work... did not work. I am glad this one did. Especially after waiting for it for a month.

Great tool for wiping a computer.
I've used it 3 times. First 2 PC's is wiped clean. The 3rd one I was using a USB DVD drive (not sure it was the problem) and it did not work because it need some kind of driver. Note that this PC had something seriously wrong with it. Also be advised that if you use a high level wipe you may spend a week waiting for it to finish. So do your homework, a standard DoD wipe is more than adequate for the average person protecting their financial info or private info on their computer.

Disappointed in this product
Disappointed in this product. It does not have auto play and if you try to manually open it there is no way to get it to work. The only way I have found for it to work is to use F2 and set it to only open in CD/RW that way it works. It works 1 to 3 times if you do it this way. When product works its great but has several flaws that makes me want to use another product.

Boots The System, Runs In Manual or Automatic Mode, and Wipes Drive zero (Boot disk)
O.k., simple statement, this product does what it states it will do:1. It will boot a system from the CD2. It works in both manual and automatic settingsThis product, per screen statement, does a DoD wipe, low level. The DoD (Department of Defense) has a set standard for wiping disk drives, to ensure that all data is removed from a disk. This wipe procedure does a small subset of the wiping standard. Most folks are not aware that when they 'delete' something from a disk, the item is not actually 'deleted'. The only that is 'deleted' is the reference pointer to the file. so that it can be accessed. When the pointer is deleted, the spot that the deleted item resides at may be over-written with new data. The item can be recovered, with specific software, by combing the disk. It can be tedious work. But that is another world! It took about 5.5 hours to wipe a 500 GB drive, and slightly over 25 hours to wipe a three terabyte drive. This is something you definitely want to start running and forget about it for a long while. Another thing, don't bother putting two drives in a system and think that if you choose the automatic method, that it will wipe both drives--nope! It is set to recognize and wipe the 'boot' drive (drive zero). If you have a disk on drive 0 & drive 1, it will only see the drive on drive zero, and proceed to wipe it. Now with that said, if you do have a good drive, that you want to keep, by all means, UNPLUG THE CABLE FROM it, as a 'just in case'! You never know when one version of the software may change and seek to wipe very thing that it sees plugged in, not just drive 0.What this essentially means is that for any drive you want wiped, you will have to plug it into the drive 0 cable, not the drive 1 cable.

Do not buy this unless you are a nerd.
A complete waste of $$. No instructions, tells me I need to boot, I don't know how to,boot. No real instructions. Maybe if you are a computer nerd you can figure out, but I'm not and I can't.

Works great!
This does the job. As long as you can figure out how to get your computer to boot up in the correct mode, you will be happy with the results. I am not a computer expert but I figured it out. I used this disk to wipe two computers: a Dell laptop and a Gateway desktop. I can now recycle these computers with no worries about leaving data behind. The disk can be reused so it is a good investment.

Over-writes ALL hard drives. Specific drives cannot be selected.
This product wipes ALL the hard drives it can find. One cannot select a specific drive. It may or may not detect and erase external USB-connected drives. The documentation says it might, but no promises. I didn't run it so I don't know for sure.

Make sure your keyboard is working properly!
I liked the fact that they included some basic instructions for installing and starting the the software, especially getting the computer to boot from the CD/Rom. That was a big help. Only drawback was , and it was not their fault, that my K key on my laptop didn't work and their instruction said " For an automated complete hard drive erase, simply enter in the word: "autonuke" at the prompt on the screen once you have booted into the DBAN Hard Drive Eraser DVD or USB." Because of the aforementioned K key, I could not type the word autonuke. Had to go the manual route. I didn't test it, but I believe that it did a good job erasing my 500 GB hard drive. It took 11 1/2 hours. I did one round, consisting of three passes.
