Minka-Aire Hand-Held Remote Control System - RCS212

I needed a remote to replace a Minka-Aire TR110A remote. This one did; in fact, it was labeled TR1110A on the actual remote. Not sure why Minka Aire make their model #s so confusing! In any event, I just made sure the "code" matched the defective remote, inserted the battery, and it worked straight away. Hence the 5 star rating.

Works well with our lighting and ceiling fan. Gives option for dimming lights as well as controlling different speeds for the ceiling fan. Also has convenient holder for attaching in an inconspicuous area for ease of use/storage.

I had two older wall mounted fan/light controllers (Model UC9040T) that I wanted to update with a remote control. The RCS212 worked flawlessly right out of the package! I also like the larger format (as compared to the wall mounted controller). It is much easier to use.

The original remote was difficult from day one. You had to really push the buttons hard. Once it had been dropped a couple of times, it was looking ragged and barely worked. Finding this redesigned version on Amazon for short money made me very happy. The intuitive controls only require a light touch. The sleeker design looks better on the side table or in the wall mount holder. It works the first push every time.

We bought this as a spare, so knew how it would work, now we each have one on our own bedside table! The only thing that annoys me about the Minka design is the light control. There are two buttons, so you expect 1 for brighter and one for dimmer, but that is not how it works. Stupidly each dimmer button does the exact same thing. So if you want to change, you have to hold down a button until it gets where you want. The problem is, say you are at 50% brightness and want to get to 25%, well, you hold the button down and it continues in the direction it was headed last time, so it might go all the way to 100% brightness, then bounce back down toward 25%. Horribly annoying, especially if you do not want to be blinded at night!. Apparently, some lights have to independent lights to control, but you would think the company would be smart enough to know they only had one light and then let the top button = brighter and the bottom button = dimmer. Jeez.

We had to replace the original remote due to wear and tear from a teenager. Anyway, I thought I had ordered an exact replacement as they looked identical however when it came in, the remote wouldn't connect with the fan. The owner had sent an email to see if we were 100% satisfied. I responded I was having a problem connecting. He asked for the model # for the fan and immediately sent a link for the correct remote needed. I packaged and returned it for full refund. The correct remote came in days. I put the battery in and voila! The fan and light both work. I higly recommend this company as their customer service is like no other I have ever received! Their products are very good quality as well.

If you have multi of these fans, you must set indicator frequency in Both handheld and Wall from one fan to the next or the remote will control both. There are 8 switches so it’s easy to configure a unique setting for each fan. Took all of 5 minutes to set.

Beware! Following the programming instructions - turning off power to the fan at the breaker and then turning it back on to code the fan's receiver to this remote - may kill the fan's receiver by electrically frying it.Programming this remote killed my fan's receiver.I have a Minka Aire fan and the standard Minka Aire receiver that comes in the box. My fan came with a wall control so I bought this remote to use it. I didn't want to use wall control so I removed it chose instead to hard wire the fan, mainly because the wall control did not fit in my shallow electrical box.Followed instructions by turning off power at the breaker. Tried to program it countless times - took too much time running up and down the stairs to the basement. Never worked. Fan just stayed on in low speed.Called customer service and was told that all that turning on and off at the breaker likely electrically fried my receiver. I should have turned off the power at the switch instead (of course they don't tell you this in the instructions). They would replace my receiver only if I can find a receipt for the fan.. I can't as of yet.Minka Aire customer service had no compassion that following their instructions caused damage and I'll be out of pocket to replace the damage plus I will have to pay for labor costs in replacing damaged parts (either my time or an electrician).At the end of the day I wish I went with some downmarket Home Depot product. Those things may not look fancy, but it works or Hunter Fans will send you replacement parts quickly with no hassle. All this fancy Minka Aire stuff is a huge waste of my time. Don't follow my poor example.
