Will this work to connect a Galaxy Note to a generic (powered by USB) hard drive, while providing power to both?

No. I used a rooted nextbook8 to a Seagate portable HDD. Worked great, however, did not power the tablet. Perhaps not enough amperage from the ac/DC transformer.

Will this be able to plug into the micro usb on my android phone with the female usb to akai mpk mini mkii and power the keyboard with the last plug?

I don't think so. I normally use it with a charger going into the female micro USB. The male micro USB goes into my android phone and the full size female USB is connected to a 500 meg hard drive. With that setup the power goes to the hard drive but not to the phone.

Can this be used without the power supply as a normal USB OTG cable? Only plug in the power when a peripheral needs the extra juice?
