I loved this book. It offers a fantastic combination of well-researched historical facts, intriguing stories and beautiful illustrations. I would recommend it to anyone with either a general interest, or expertise in Samurai and Japanese martial history.

This is a nice compact book, not too wordy and not too short, a good introduction to the history of the Samurai. Lots of nice colour photos and art too. I particularly liked the section about how the Samurai culture continues in modern films and video games.

This book strikes that perfect balance between being fantastically researched, but also really well written, well organized and with visual elements that are just really smartly presented. Having lived in Japan for a few years and having studied the samurai (at least superficially), I thought a lot of this might be review. A little bit was, but most expanded on and deepened my understanding and appreciation for the samurai. My highest recommendation!
