Ash trap had been closed some time back when fireplace was converted to gas logs by previous owner. I changed it back to original function, wood burning. I had to do some masonry work to make a perfect fit. Good value, easy to use, easy to clean.

I bough this 4.5 yrs ago and i am very happy with it. Very easy to install. I have seen very little rust during that time and the latch locking mechanism works great.I would highly recommend.

Quick repair. Just wish the door was reversible

This isn't a particularly effusive review, because there's not a lot to say.My original clean out door was just short of ancient, rusted, and needed to be retired.Enter... this one. It's exactly as expected, and installed easily with an experienced brick worker.

Much nicer than the original door I ordered and returned that came damaged. This is a strong, sturdy door that was simple to install. I bought it to cover an open airway in my basement chimney from the 1930’s. I didn’t really need it, but decided it was best to keep it and needed the door replaced.

Door arrived the next day along with the recommended tube of black mortar. Just as described, nothing fancy but nice and sturdy. Had to pull out the frame from the old cleanout door that had broken off some time ago (that was way easier than I have thought). Then it took about 30 minutes to chip out some old mortar and a corner of a brick to fit the frame into the opening. I pulled the top hinge pin about half-way out and slid the door off the frame. Then I applied the mortar to the back face of the frame and the inside face of the chimney and set the frame in pace. I then worked the mortar into all the open areas between the door frame and the bricks. Be careful because the black mortar will get everywhere, and you really can’t clean it up. I made a mess and will have to get some paint to match my grey bricks to clean it up. I let the frame set in the opening overnight while the mortar set. The next morning, I gave the frame a little tug and it was solid. So, I just re-installed the door on the hinges and closed it up. Now this door doesn't seal up tight and the hinge is just kind of held in place by gravity, but I can't see any rodents being able to get past the quarter inch gap the door can be pulled to. So overall for 45 minutes and less than $50 my fireplace ash vault is once again secure from the outside. I would absolutely buy again.
