Recon Instruments MOD Live Heads-Up Display for Goggles

I bought this 1 year ago and it was sitting in the corner until the next ski trip that happened a few weeks ago.I was totally frustrated that the Android app from the Play Store does not seem to work, everything seems to be for the latest "Snow 2", so I already had low expectations.So, I got it charged up and I scrolled over to the stats application to see speed and altitude, and was glad that something worked. I was blown away when I scrolled over to the "Compass" application and the actual Vail trail maps came up relative to my current position. Augmented reality kicked in when I turned my head and it lists the name of the lift or key building in the direction that I was looking at and the distance in meters. It also had the different color (green, blue, black) colored trails that I was currently on.This appears to be an outdated product (hence the lower star review), and I am assuming that the Snow2 is the current flagship with working smartphone software. But the price is too high for the snow2. I was able to get this for $150, and found an even older model of MOD HUD (no live) with new Zeal goggles for $100. I swapped out the recon components and it worked!Tip, it seems to be GSP sensitive to the resort. For instance, the compass application did not show me any trails when I was in my condo at Vail, but it came to life when I was on the gondola. I assume it loads up the maps that it recognizes only when you are there.Another disadvantage is that you have to look down to see which is an obvious distraction. Such that, you need to be stationary in a safe place in order to look and read information from this device. Also, I was not able to install any working software with my latest computer, so I am disappointed by not being able to use the other features. But, this is definitely in a positive direction where this type of technology is headed.Another note, I tried attaching this device to the 3 different types of goggles that I have (Oakley, dragon, smith), and it does NOT seem to be any way it could fit.

There are many cons here for consumers who want a no frills top of the line HUD system for their "Recon Ready Goggles". But if you feel like nerding out, spending time time reviewing the few bits of documentation, and watching the youtube videos you will get it to work. Its also much cheaper to cut out a pair of Amazon It took about two days on and off to get the HUD system to pair and connect with my phone. Once I figured it out, it was consistent. Note: this product only works with the MOD Live app on the Apple App store. The Recon engage is for newer Recon models.The augmented reality map off whatever ski resort you are at is freaking awesome. Nerdiest Dude on the Mountain... You Bet!But really, who will be the wiser unless you point it out? If you are at all like me and take your Winter Sports as seriously as I do, than you will love this little Gadget. I'll tell you, Having a display that provides the data capable in the Recon MOD Live HUD like speed, heading, hang time, number of runs, best times, ect. is just unreal. And being able to track your Friends (or kids) on the mountain is just too cool too. Mountain Trail Map Overlays, Music Control, Action Camera Support, Phone, SMS, and Social Media Integration are all Amazing features too. I just can't get over how Jam packed full of features this HUD is. And to think, the software updates will only get better. Great Work Recon!

I wanted one of these for a while but the $400 price tag kept me away. I managed to pick one up for $150 and I couldn't be happier (maybe I could be a little happier.) My primary use is for snowboarding and it does its job really well and its cool to see your stats in your peripherals. I also use it for paintballing, some people have developed apps for this use and its kinda fun.My only complaint is that it is very difficult to adjust inside your goggles for good viewing.other than that, love it!

I bought 2 of them for my self &a present for my dad. also alpina recon ready googles.instaled them and the googles keep breaking apart after every touch on them(glass come of ,cable inside come of nothing stays solid!!!after every slove have to reatached everything!!!!last firmware is KING OF THE CRAP!!!before my ski holidays i made update,everything was fine i tested at home no probs went on holidays switched on says update firmare all the time and out of control shows this till the baterry flat.read a review that has to be reinstal a firmware again.....my dads googles wasnt update and they worked but had the isue:cant connect to the phone..(i had the same problem before update)i can keep on.... and on about this miracle googles!!!the only thing what i wanted to do on my holidays throught those f... GOOGLES MILES AWAY FROM ME!!!!BE ONEST ITS MOST EXPENSIVE CRAP I EVER BOUGHT IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!

Not ready for primetime. Software is buggy and difficult to use. Limited battery life does not last through a typical ski day. It is difficult to see the screen in bright conditions (almost any time you are skiing). The positioning of the screen is also too low in the goggles requiring you to take your eyes off of the slopes.

Item NIB and am very happy with it.Good thing I am upgrading phones this week because I only have an iphone 4 running a backdated jailbroken ios, whereas an iPhone 4S or higher running ios 6+ is required to link via bluetooth. Device is still useable, but was hoping to be able to connect to phone for immediate use. Also, a computer is required for downloading latest firmware updates to device.I placed the order for this late Friday afternoon and signed for the package Saturday at 1139am.This is legitimately the fastest I had EVER had anything shipped to me. Redicioulously fast!
