Good Coverage of Major Upper Ottawa Valley Rivers
Another good book by Hap Wilson -- I have several. Illustrations are good. Narrative is informative and entertaining. Some maps are a bit small, but the whole book is a great guide. I'm planning trip on the Noire in July, so this is useful stuff for me. It's a few years old, so not necessarily "current" as of 2019.

was a great addition to my books by hap
To me these books have a dual purpose... they are reminders of the adventurous spirit and really the birthright of Canadians in the canoe. They are also excellent guidebooks that are designed to supplement your planning for your canoe trip.I bought this as a gift for my daughter who just did the coulonge. Her trip leaders had these maps as a suppliment to the topos they brought... she was excited to revisit her epic adventure through hap's book.I recommend all of Mr Wilson's books.

Hap Wilson helps you discover the coulonge river
I would strongly recommend anyone who's attempting to canoe the coulonge river to buy Haps book. It's very helpful in planning the trip and on the water it will help you even more. The detailed maps in the book help you to learn about upcoming rapids, waterfalls and swifts before it's too late. Unless you have someone with you who know's the river- I would rely on Haps experience. And we actually did. A very useful book and well worth every penny. It also tells you about the history of the river, which is quite interesting.

Essential If You're Going There
For planning a canoe tripping excursion on any river in the vast Ottawa River watershed, consider this the definitive, essential Source document of the highest order. Hap Wilson is virtuoso talent at what he does.

Great Resource
Great book. Now a bit dated, but still a good resource for paddlers. We used it on the Coulonge River while visiting from Saskatchewan to paddle the river that my Great Great Grandfather built a lumber mill on. Now I want to go back and paddle more of the Coulonge and the other rivers in this book.

A Truly Valuable Guide to Some Fine Rivers
As a paddler who has started to explore these rivers I was very happy to find Hap Wilson's guide book. The detail of the river maps is amazing and I wish I had found this before a recent trip on the Noire. However, that experience allows me to attest to its accuracy. I was dissapointed to find that he had not included the same detailed maps for the Pettawawa River but merely a brief description of the river deferring to The Friends of Algonquin. An updated version that included the, now extensive, road access to the Noire, Coulonge, and Dumoine Rivers would certainly be appreciated. Overall this is a truly valuable guide that I am pleased to have purchased.

Not truly inclusive of the "Upper Ottawa Valley"
Primarily covers areas surrounding the Ottawa River only. Not inclusive of the actual Upper Ottawa Valley area.
