① Hold the handle part with one hand like you are ready to use it ② Squeeze the handle a little bit like you are cutting an object then push the switch from "C" (it stands for close) to "S"(small) or "L" (large) with another hand to unlock then it will be open very easily.

Ratchet strap's density is much higher than normal daily objects. It is not easy to cut no matter using a knife or a pair of scissors. Would suggest another propper tool for cutting through a rachet strap.

Bit of a 'How long is a piece of string?' question, but I have trimmed up a fairly substantial leather belt with these. Also thick triwall cardboard, 5mm neoprene, and a textile backed vinyl tablecloth, all with ease. These are well built, very sharp, and have a lot of leverage.
