How far does this cast the food ?

Depending on height of feeder will determine distance. I've got one that is 6 ft high and it will shoot out around 20 ft and under. A shield could be created to have feeder either drop directly below if needed. Best of luck!

How much feed those it throw per second?

according to the included document it dispenses 0.16 pounds per second. I am guessing this number assumes you are dispensing typical deer corn. I am sure this is an approximation and first second is slightly less as it spins up and the last second more as it spins down. It would also vary slightly depending on the size, quality and type of feed you are dispensing.

Can this be used as a chicken feeder?

battery pack doesn't have enough power to work below 32 degrees....only works 2 time daily...maybe cracked corn, but not laying mash...and then only a couple pounds of corn each time....wouldn't recommend this feeder for ANYTHING....it's crap !!!

How the heck does the cover come off? I have it screwed down to my work bench with a a ratcheting leather strap on it and the cover won't budge.

Mine twisted off easily. It is not a screw thread.... it only rotates 1/2 inch or so then you pull down. It is a keeper/slot arrangement

Lid is on rediculacly tight.

Item arrived today. Package arrived in good nick, unit seems bell built but, I cannot currently get into it.The lid is so tight.I've tried all the normal things. Damp towel leather sofa for grip.Now I'm trying to expand the lid to get it to free.
