A great solution for the right use case. See my 5-point user observations…
TLDR: Old-timey tech that works well and stays warm for a good 12 hours if kept under the bed covers. Full review: The Peterpan hot water bottle is a simple, eco-friendly way to make a too-cold bedroom more comfortable during cold weather. I have found this to be an ideal solution that allows me to avoid the running costs and dry air associated with using a space heater, or the potential EMF/environmental concerns of modern electric blankets—which are invariably made out of cheap, polyester fleece. I use it to warm the foot of the bed by placing under the top sheet and blankets and it makes a huge difference in cold weather comfort, staying warm for a complete night of sleep plus a few hours more if you are lazing in bed at the weekends. After using it continuously for a couple of weeks, I can report that this is a quality item; thick and well made with a well-designed cap that is leak free. Key Design/Function Points: 1. The large capacity and thick rubber construction enable it to radiate gentle, controlled heat for a long time. 2. If you are considering a Japanese-style ‘yutanpo’ hot water bottle for a similar use-case, keep in mind that they become scalding hot and you must use a thick cover to blunt the heat to safe levels. Also, that efficient heat transfer means the yutanpo will dump most of its heat within a few hours. This model of Peterpan is similar in capacity but the design is much more practical for daily, household use. 3. Although this model comes with a nice, zippered cover, I find it to be unnecessary. The thick rubber construction is enough on its own to slow the heat transfer to a gentle, consistent warmth—even when filled with scalding hot water from the faucet. 4. RE the cover, using it does make the bottle easier to position and/or move if using it as a bed warmer because it allows the bottle to slide around, as opposed to the textured rubber of the bare bottle which grips the bed linens and wants to stay in place. But the grippiness is a benefit for the way I use it. 5. I have also used this bottle to relieve joint pain and it’s great, but for that purpose I recommend filling to only around 50-75% capacity so that it is more flexible and can then drape over the target area for better contact. Thanks for reading my review!

Amazing technology!!
My doctor advised me to get a heating pad and/or a hot water bottle to ease the pain in my back. The electric heating pad was fast but even on medium it got very hot, even when covered with its little slipcover and a dish towel. I disliked the way the heat felt sharp and realized I also didn't like the idea of being draped in electrical wires for even a short period of time. Browsing Amazon, I looked up rubber hot water bottles. Weren't that many still made of rubber, but of the few I found this one by Peter Pan stood out. It is 56% rubber instead of a synthetic material de jure and thru the text and reviews I got an education on how to use one. But I wasn't prepared for how terrific this rather antiquated piece of equipment is. It can be filled about 3/4 full with boiling water. If you squeeze out the remaining air before you screw in the plug the bottle will remain warm and cozy 7 hours later! It is very hot to the touch after you've filled it, so the handle on the shoulder makes so much sense because it makes the filling and handling much simpler, safer and less awkward than the cheaper version I got at the drug store (which had no handle and would not allow boiling water.) Peter Pan sends along a little cloth case with a zipper closure to keep it properly fitted to the bottle. I quickly came to appreciate this the first time I filled it as initially the bottle is piping hot. But the thing that has amazed me most is the glorious comfort of the heat radiating from this water bottle. It is so soothing and comfortable on aching muscles...way more pleasant than a stiff rectangle of cloth containing stiff electrical wires. Now I confess, at seventy-five, I'd never used a hot water bottle before, so perhaps those who have will not be surprised at my revelation. But for those of you who haven't, if you need the relief of some steady, soothing heat on sore, painful joints and muscles, and want to avoid EMF exposure, treat yourself to this sturdy, well made, rubber hot water bottle. Such a simple, practical and enduring technology from the nineteenth century! It greatly aided in my recouperation, but now I'm using it nightly since it's equally great in a chilly bed for cold feet!

Satisfied.
A post-script to the review below. I was impressed that the folks at Peter Pan contacted me about the problem below. Apparantly this problem is very unusual and is due to the high rubber content. Rubber is better for retaining heat in my ever so humble opinion. I would recommend this item wholeheartedly. I've been using this nightly and I like it.. It holds the heat very well and the ribbed surface. So I'm pleased with my purchase. Really good size. One problem: When I tried to fill it the first time I discovered the inner walls were stuck together which stopped water from entering so water would just gush ou again. Luckily I was using not very hot water. Could haveen nasty! By slowly allowing warm water to run into the bottle and by pushing a wooden spatula down inside, I got the walls to separate. No problems since.

Best Hot Water Bottle Ever
This is a large and fabulous water bottle. The handle is wonderful and angled well to help prevent burning yourself when you fill it. It's sturdy and I pretty much use this almost daily since purchase. I really want to get the long one as well. As someone who suffers from chronic pain from auto-immune conditions and hyper mobility, this bottle is far superior to any others I have purchased. Worth the price!

Rolls Royce of hot water bottles?
My wife and I prefer sleeping in cold, drafty rooms, in beds laden with blankets. Hot water bottles have been a big deal for us since childhood. So, it was with some trepidation that I ordered this bottle, especially since there were so few reviews. I received it today and I am delighted. There is nothing about it I would change. It is obviously designed and manufactured by hot water bottle aficionados. I have it on my lap now. It is filled with nearly boiling water, and it smells like a new hot water bottle should: a very mild rubbery smell that I expect will go in a week or so. I doubt that I could find a better hot water bottle. This is just like the ones my parents had: good, sturdy design. The surface is covered by thin ribs (around 1/16 inch deep and spaced around 1/8 inch apart). When you touch the bottle, you touch the ribs rather than the hot surface. The heat emanates from between the ribs. The stopper is plastic (possibly nylon) and it screws into what appears to be a brass opening. The handle makes filling the bottle much easier and safer. When filling the bottle for the first time, I noticed that the inner sides of the bottle had adhered to each other. I put in as much water as I could, put on the stopper, then jiggled the bottle. After repeating this procedure a few times, the inner sides had separated and the bottle could be fully filled. I shall update this post if I run into any problems, but I am not expecting any. Thank you, Peter Pan. You made something simple but you made it very well.

Large strong hot water bottle works very well.
Good thick hot water bottle, large capacity. Has a good cloth cover. I fill it every night for my wife. It's too long to hold under the faucet in the kitchen, so I fill a 2-cup measuring cup and pour it in (3 times). Squeezing all the air out before tightening the screw all the way makes it behave better (doesn't slosh around in the bed).

Old fashioned hot water bottle
It’s an old fashioned hot water bottle. It doesn’t take much effort to tighten and unscrew the plug. It didn’t leak one drop. The only thing I’d note is to be extremely careful when emptying the water bottle because the water doesn’t come out in a single stream and can burn someone if not careful.

Revised Uprated Review
Initial Review: Happy with my purchase, however, disappointed in the handle as it seems weak and I fear that it will tear soon. Review 1 year Later: Outstanding! No problems with the handle -- Well I used this all last winter and been using it again this last month and that "weak" handle is still holding strong. I wouldn't fling it around by it, but I'm back to buy another as I prefer having two hot water bottles on really cold nights: one down and my feet and one up around my torso. I do put them in bed about 15-30 minutes before I go to bed and then when I'm ready I move them around and warm up the cold spots and get in to wonderful warmth. I do not like electric blankets, and to me there's nothing better than the heat from a hot water bottle -- it's just so much better anyway than electric. That "weak" handle that has held up so well (hope I don't jinx myself, is one of the main reasons I'm back to buy this particular brand. Also just the overall construction. With the deep ribs, I don't need to fuss with a material cover for it. The rubber is super thick and holds the heat well. It's quality in a world that tends to cut a lot of corners. Hope nothing has changed in them as I another now :) I wish there were other colors (purple please), but I won't buy other brands that don't have the handle. I have burned myself with other versions that don't have a handle and you're trying to hold it around the neck of the bottle while filling it with just boiled water and it's not smart at all. You still need to be careful with this, but still so much easier. As others have said, filling over the sink is the way to go.

the quality and make
I Love this hot water bottle, I got the more expensive one, heavy duty rubber, keeps the water hot longer in use, I would buy again. I don't have a picture of it.

Very good thick quality rubber
“Delivery was super fast! Very good thick quality rubber and nice big size.” No leaking! I couldn’t choose between the one with handle 2.5L and the xxx super extra large 3L with protection cover... so I bought both. And finally love them both. They will be very useful for the longest time. They also have smaller size and shapes. I highly recommend these products. You will not find any like these elsewhere.

Very Durable But Not Warm Enough
This water bottle has great thickness and durability, but as a result it doesn't get very hot. Handle is fantastic for holding during refills and for carrying. It does hold heat in very well and makes a great couch buddy for cold days spent reading or watching movies. Overall good product but too pricey for what you get.

This hot water bottle is much thicker than the one you will buy at the drugstore.
I like the fact that it holds it's heat for a long time, a very long time if under blankets.. It's a little pricey but I was getting desperate for a dependable product... I'm hoping it lasts forever...if it doesn't you will hear from me.....maybe.
