Combines optical digital audio and VGA analog video.
I tested this for a unique setup. Recording game play from an old gaming PC that uses a 3dfx Voodoo2 for video (VGA). Then for audio, a Sound Blaster Audigy (Front panel optical 2 channel audio). I really wanted to capture digital audio, instead of analog. I did multiple resolution tests. 640x480@60Hz was the lowest resolution that I was able to make work. Ensure that whatever resolution you pass into it, is something your HDTV can understand, since this device does no scaling. Some people will prefer this, while others may see it as a con. Be careful not to blame the device in case your HDTV simply just does not support a particular resolution.I have been comparing VGA to HDMI adapters against the Sewell Hammerhead. It is twice the price, and does not offer any digital audio input. However, it does support a much larger list of VGA input resolutions and frequencies, and switches very quickly between them anytime a change occurs. It also does not scale.Pros:Image quality at various resolutions was excellent. No analog visual noise passed through.I did not notice delay or lag while playing a game.I was able to combine analog video and digital audio onto a single HDMI cable for capture. This is the only low price device that I have found that includes optical combined with VGA, for input. 4th star for this. This device does not scale. For my use, scaling would not be preferred. This was a good thing.Cons:The included manual does list typical supported VGA input resolutions. However, despite that the list includes 75Hz modes, I was only able make it work with 60Hz input signals. Example: 1024x768@60Hz works, while 1024x768@75Hz did not. Depending on what OS you are using, be sure to configure your output settings before switching to this adapter. You may find yourself staring at a blank screen.
