Grandson loves these books.

It is an interesting story but can get scary at times. In several places (pages 21 - 29 and pages 72 - 76) there is a suggestion of torture, including a threat to brand exposed skin with a hot medal. As "Grampa" doing the reading to a nine year old, I didn't appreciate those parts and so explained to my grandson what I was doing and then skipped those pages. For older children, maybe OK.
