I almost didn’t buy this because of all the complaints about poor installation instructions. I was able to to easily install this the first time in about 15 minutes. It’s sturdy, well-designed, and a fraction of the cost of the Volvo OEM part

In spite of the way this product is marketed, it does not work in the Volvo XC90. It attaches to the car basically mid-way between the second and third row, and there is a large gap between the back of the second row and the grate. As a result, it does not work to keep pets in the cargo area. We also found that it was difficult to install, and it kept falling out of the notches in the car roof area. We did reach out to customer service about our concerns, and they responded promptly, but because the return window had closed, they would not take the item back or provide any price adjustment. Basically this was a waste of more than $245.

I did it's inaugural ride and everything is good. No rattles or vibrations. If anything starts to get loose I'll either use threadlocker, locktite , or some locking washers. There is a gap between bottom of barrier and back seats. Shouldnt be a problem with larger dogs. Took me approximately 1 hr., omly because I made a mistake and needed to backtrack. When prepping it for install the big suggestion is follow the steps. For example when you get to step 5B continue to 5C don't stop at 5B and think let me pre-install the other parts. DONT! If u get to Step 5B and think let me first install parts for Step 6 you will not be able to install the barrier because the Step 6 parts r preventing you positioning the barrier. Big advice is install everything in order and dont pre-install other parts from later steps.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I've successfully put together some fairly complex stuff over the years (from nitro RC car kits to costco gazebo kits to boxed patio furniture kits as well as building 5 3D printers, one of which I redesigned from scratch), but I could not convince this barrier to stay in place in my 2022 Volvo XC90. I must have gone over the instructions at least 10 times. The sizing for the thing is right, the bottom connectors go exactly where they should, the sides rest on window trim pieces (suboptimal, but acceptable) as they should, but the top metal studs would not stay in place in their grooves. Any pressure on the barrier at all in any direction and they'd slide out of place and the studs would be resting on the plastic ceiling trim. I didn't feel comfortable driving any distance without those studs being firmly in place because of the damage the heavy barrier could cause to the headliner trim. I eventually went with a Bushwhacker strap-to-the-seats barrier (50" model for my XC90) in its place. The Bushwhacker is nowhere near as sturdy, nice, and presentable as this one, but it stays in place without damaging anything.

We have two dogs getting carted around frequently. The gate is rugged and looks as nice as you could hope for turning the back of the car into a mobile kennel. Easy to install.

Installed in a 2018 XC90 T6 (3 Row). No issues. I prefer the price of this unit to the volvo version and had used a similar guars in a previous SUV. Of note - they use both the ceiling mount points AND the floor anchor points, leading to a setup that should be equivalent to OEM for most uses.

I needed a gate partition to keep my dogs in the back of the 2nd row and this fits the bill. I wanted something that was customized to my vehicle but also easy to take on/off. Very happy with this purchase.

The gate is actually great and fits perfectly into my XC90. I would have given it a 5 star review but the "directions" are absolutely worthless and it took an inordinate amount of time to assemble

The guard suffers from the lack of a rotating claw to engage in the roof holes, and thus compares poorly with the Volvo equivalent for comparable dog guards for such vehicles as the V70. This also explains the frustration expressed by some purchasers.I am attempting to overcome this by loosening the guard once in place, and then forcing the lip as far into the hole as possible. I have tightened the frame as the instruction recommends and if it does not hold, will return the entire guard.

Guard is custom built for XC90, but leaves a c.10cm gap between guard and rear seats. It has another part which attaches to close this gap and prevent smaller dogs (Jack Russells, etc) climbing through. This was poorly made, with the nuts not being welded true. The bolts were almost impossible to attach, and when eventually we were able to connect nut and bolt, the weld simply gave and snapped off. See photo's. Guard would work fine as is for larger dogs, but is pretty useless for our three terriers. Ours may have been a one-off lemon, as other standards of finish seem pretty good, but, speak as you find, as they say.
