A voice of reason in a world of fad diets
I am a big fan of Beck's Diet Solution and wondered if this would add anything new. The first part is a summary of what she calls the Foundation Strategies. This is a summary of her earlier work and will be very familiar if you own her other books. I found it a useful and concise refresher of her approach, which I believe is 100% effective - if you use it consistently. And there's the key - and the reason for the second part of the book. Losing weight is hard - but keeping it off is even harder. Finding the motivation to do what we know we need to do, after the initial novelty of losing weight has work off, can be nearly impossible for many of us. This book gets to the very heart of why we regain, and offers clear strategies to avoid the diet traps that derail us.Beck's work is based on CBT - changing the way we talk to ourselves. Working through the earlier books I experienced the incredible feeling of hearing my positive self talk pop into my head at the exact moment I was about to chuck my food plan out of the window. The second part of this book offers powerful self talk for the moments when it is so easy to think it's not worth it and give up.Beck's approach is not a quick fix.She encourages slow weight loss and is very strong on the need to incorporate moderate, planned portions of junk food into your diet to avoid the diet/binge cycle. This is a balanced, sustainable and powerful approach to lifetime maintenance of a healthy weight.Beck's strategies helped me lose 3 stone in 2011, and to keep most of it off for the last four years. It's been far from perfect, but I am slimmer, fitter and healthier now in my 50s than I was 30 years ago. This latest book is the final piece of the jigsaw, putting in place the strong habits and forward planning needed to avoid the common diet traps of stress, emotional eating, social pressure and eating out.If you are already familiar with Beck's work, but struggle to implement the strategies consistently, this is the book you have been waiting for. if you're new to the Beck approach, this book has all the information you need to get started, though the earlier work goes into the foundation strategies in more detail, which some may find helpful. In a world where quick fixes and extreme diet plans have left us fatter than ever, Judith Beck is a voice of reason. Her approach is not easy - but it does get easier as time goes on. Highly recommended, especially for any of us have ever wondered how we can be so successful at the diet one week and find it impossible to get back on track the next.........

Common Sense Approach to Dieting
This is the second time I have purposely read through The Diet Trap Solution. It is one that you can keep referring back to when you find your eating going out of control. This is another book that I was reading through with my friend, as we try to encourage each other to get healthier and lose weight. The book goes through the psychology of dieting and why most diets fail - not because of the diets themselves, but rather because of ourselves. There are various core strategies that is recommended you do every day (for example, reading through your Advantages List of why it is important to you to lose weight). There are reminder cards for you to carry around with you to help prepare and prevent your sabotaging behaviour, and you are encouraged to think in advance about what normally happens to sabotage your weight loss, and what strategy you will use to mitigate it this time.At the start of the book there is a quick quiz to determine which traps affect you the most, and then the book goes through each of eight traps in groups of two: Internal Traps, Interpersonal Traps, External Traps, and Universal Traps. For me, I ticked 'yes' to almost all of them, but even if you don't, I'd recommend you at least skim read through the other chapters, even if you don't pay as much attention to the ones that affect you.I like this book because it is no nonsense, Again, it's not a magic pill that will solve all your weightloss problems, but it helps focus your mind. Whilst some of the suggestions seem like common sense, I dare say that if you perfectly enacted all of them in your daily life, you wouldn't be needing to lose weight.

Huge help in mental preparation for long-term weight loss
I highly recommend this book which helped me lose about 2 stones to date and counting!🙂As says on the tin it is not a diet so you will still need to do your research.. but it helps you greatly with the mental preparation and avoiding your personal "traps" that derail your diet.I was following the method religiously in the first few weeks and then got a bit relaxed on the "admin" bit as the good things've become a habit to me and it felt increasingly natural to live and eat like this. After about 3 months I'm still on track and I'm enjoying life in a much healthier way! Also, the method taught me to handle my "slips" in a much better way, so bouncing back as quickly as possible, rather than go down the rabbit hole..I also follow the Facebook page which supports you with daily motivational messages and practical tips. And two unexpected benefits for me:1. I was a "sugar junkie" before and my craving for sweets has reduced so much! I didn't think it was possible. Nowadays I rarely want them but if I do, I plan ahead and enjoy in moderation. It actually works.2. My lower back pain and bloating before period has got so much better! I expect after losing another stone or so I will actually become pain-free.Disclaimer: I also exercise about 3-4x/week. So I think these results are definitely a combination of diet+ exercise.I still believe that this method has given me that much-needed push to finally get started with my lifestyle change. Go for it!

A great book to help you understand why you eat what you do
So far I have recommended this book to at least 4 clients. If you find yourself struggling to adhere to healthy eating, this is the first book to read. It doesn't tell you what to eat, it explains why you want to eat. Just brilliant.
