I had to buy this second and then third collection after reading the first Adventures (from Wordsworth). Firstly I enjoy short stories, but these present an intelligent level of 'deduction' that spans the years. It is so easy to slip into the period of the writer without even knowing you had to leave 'today' (with its computers and fancy modern stuff) :) My usual reading is Sci-Fi and Fantasy but you can't go past a classic.

That's right; it's a book about Holmes after his miraculous escape from the Rice... from the Rick... from that Swiss waterfall he fell over!If you love Holmes, you'll love this. You do get a feel that Sir Arthur's phoning it in by now, but the stories don't suffer too badly from that. As you near the end, you do get that feeling of sadness that comes from knowing there's no more of the original stories left to read (assuming, of course, that you've read 'em in the right order!) but, as we know, all good things must come to an end.

I'm glad to announce that Sherlock Holmes didn't die at Reichenbach Falls and these stories prove it. Our hero is back in more tales as good as ever. Great edition by Wordworth, whose book I shall seek out due to their great value for money. I hope I didn't spoil anyone's read but it was first published 100 years ago so my revealing spoiler should be common knowledge by now.
