Not everything I had hoped for
I am in two minds about this book. I'll say straightaway that I am not a fan of diets and diet books as such, and I usually avoid anything with the word holistic attached. Too much hype, too much fad, and not enough supporting argument. This book at least attempts to provide at least some of the supporting argument - the biome! However, while I can go along with the importance of the biome, and the need to support it, I remain unconvinced by the extent of the diet specified by the author. The author also makes the thyroid a mainstay of his argument, and it may well be, but besides criticising current medical practise, the author to my mind failed to provide adequate alternative. More tests maybe, but indication as to what to make of the results of such tests was lacking. The writing is also somewhat repetitive, at least in the first few chapters which could probably have been conveyed in fewer pages.Against this, full marks to the author for tackling a complex and important subject.

Accessible Introduction to Gut Health and Mental Wellbeing
This is the second book of Dr Kellman's I've purchased. I'm already a huge fan of the Microbiome Diet which I've found invaluable and this new book is the next steps on the fascinating journey of well being through gut health. Still reading but has not disappointed so far.

Amazing!
I am a Registered Nurse in Australia who is particularly interested in Gut-Health. Whilst this is not an area yet readily available nor accessible to my profession, I am looking forward to the day that it is! I see multiple pt presentations, particularly in the elderly, which are “symptoms of treatment”, far outweighing the original problem. Our nation is aging yes, but they are not all becoming biologically sicker due to nature’s process. Our aged nation is unwell due to overtreatment, polypharmacy, and symptomatic treatment which mounts until it is unreversable. Not to mention, I have worked in hospitals where acutely ill patients are served fried fish and chips for dinner and overloaded with carbs, sugar and diary in between meals to keep them satiated and reduce costs. Our health system is what’s wrong with Australia’s health and we always seem about 10 steps behind the US. Dr Kellmans conceptual approach is the true definition of holistic healthcare and whilst he does not discredit actual ailment / illness’ and their traditional treatments, he does clearly highlight the detrimental cost and effect of co-morbidities which could be effectively addressed through an increase in individualised patient care. The world requires intelligent practitioners which think far beyond mere institutionalised “parameters”, have faith in and are willing to advocate for their patients and who put time and effort into researching and specialising in wholistic patient care rather than a speciality. You can’t fix a car if you are familiar with only one particular part. All General practitioner should in my opinion have to specialise in Dr Kellmans “Gut health” approach and treat thier patients as such prior to referring them to specialist for systematic illness. Pt health already suffers Immensly at the hands of communication errors (transfer of pt care) and the subsequent reduction of “passing the buck” (at a guess) which results from systematic care, can only increase pt health outcomes and reduce institutionalised illness. I commend you Dr Kellman and look forward to the day that your methods become standard practice. Until then, I will buy multiple copies of your books to give away and refer you to every single pt I consult who tearfully pleads to me for help because although not critically ill, thier quality of life is significantly reduced, something just isn’t right and they know it within themselves, but because the picture just doesn’t clinically add up, they are labeled dramatic with impaired coping skills. The current clinical approach will one day be as laughable as diagnosed hysteria! Thank you Dr Kellman
