The Girl in the Headlines

YA thriller
Andrea McNulty wakes up in a run-down motel room, splattered in blood and with no memory of how she got there or what happened the night before. The day before had been her 18th birthday and she spent it with two happy parents and her 9-year-old brother Josh. But now she covered in blood and when she sees the news, she discovers that she is a fugitive. Andi’s parents were brutally attacked the night before, her dad is dead, mom is in the hospital and Josh is missing. The news calls Andi a person of interest, and Andi is panicking. She knows there is no way she could have hurt her family, but the police seem to think otherwise. With the help of Nate, the sweet desk clerk at the motel, Andi is determined to find the real person who did this to her family. Hopefully she figures it out before they find her first. This is a fast-paced book where Andi goes on a journey to find a killer, and also figure out if her memories of her happy family and her place with them are real. The book leaves a few unanswered questions at the end about some things that happen in the book that I wish were wrapped up. But otherwise, the story is a good one.

Gripping and Suspenseful
**A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**I have read four other Hannah Jayne books before. Some I loved and some I thought were okay. This led me to have high hopes for The Girl in the Headlines and Hannah Jayne did not disappoint. The Girl in the Headlines brought mystery, suspense, drama, and started out instantly with a bang.Right from the beginning the story was intense. This wasn’t a book that started slow or built up to the intense stuff. The first sentence had me hooked and Jayne kept you in her grips the entire story. We follow Andi as she wakes up covered in blood and finding the news playing on repeat that her parents have been murdered, her brother is missing and she is the prime suspect… with no memory of anything that happened. With the help of some unsuspecting strangers, Andi journeys to find what really happen.I really enjoyed Andi as the main character. She comes from a very upper class home, but isn’t afraid to get dirty and do what is necessary. She’s not afraid of hard work. I also really like Nate. He balanced Andi out a lot during the story and I grew to love him. I’d be friends with someone like him. I also liked that I had no idea how the story was going to end. I had suspicions, but Jayne kept me guessing. Each time I thought I might know, she threw me a curveball that had me second guess my thoughts. The story flowed really well, even when Andi had flashbacks of memory. I liked how Jayne wrote in little things from Andi’s background so we understood who she was more and more as the story went along. The Girl in the Headlines is my favorite Hannah Jayne book to date, and remember, I have read four other books by her. It was gritty, dark, twisty, and gorged full of suspense. I loved this book from cover to cover and cannot wait to see what story Jayne writes up next. Definitely read it. You will not be disappointed.

Another great YA Thriller author to add to your Reading Lists.
As a fan of YA thrillers and mysteries, this book had captured my attention from the get-go and also the fact that I had previously read Twisted by Hannah Jayne and had a couple more of her books on my kindle to read. I didn't know exactly what I was in for but going in blind is often when the best results occur. The Girl in the Headlines starts with a punch when Andrea - our main female character wakes up in a random hotel room and she is covered in blood. She can't remember a single thing except that yesterday was her 18th birthday, after that everything is a blur. Andrea turns on the TV and imagine her shock when she sees her name scrawled along the bottom of the screen with the words "suspected person of interest". It turns out that Andrea's dad is dead, her mother is fighting for her life and her younger brother Josh is missing and all signs are pointing to Andrea committing the crime. Of course, she can't have done it, or did she? As the book goes along, Andrea will pair up with Nate who runs the motel she is staying at to try and clear her name and also find out where her brother Josh is. During the book, we learn that Andrea wasn't her parent's actual daughter and that her parents kept some hidden skeletons from her including some tidbits about her real parents. Overall the book was a bit of a slow-paced mystery and when the ending was revealed it was easy to guess and predictable as I had kind of had an idea of the ending from about the mid-point of the story. However, in saying that if you are needing a new YA thriller author to check out, then add Hannah Jayne to your reading lists.
