An emotional read that packed a punch. Absolutely recommend.
3.5 stars!I initially picked up this book with the expectation that it would be a gripping courtroom thriller, but I was disappointed. However, that does not mean I did not enjoy it. The story was still engaging and captivating, just not in the way I had anticipated!Charlotte ad Samantha Quinn's family was torn apart by a vicious attack on their home 28 years ago, leaving deep emotional scars that Charlotte has struggled to overcome. Now, as a defense attorney, like her father before her, she is forced to relive the trauma when violence strikes her town once again. As the first witness to the scene, Charlotte is pushed to the brink as the repressed memories of that fateful day threaten to consume her, along with the secret she has kept buried deep within her.I was struck by the depth of the characters in this story - Rusty, Gamma, Ben, Charlotte, Samantha and Lenore. But what really touched me was the bond between the two sisters! Their personalities were so well-crafted and authentic that I felt their pain and their determination to move forward after such a devastating attack. Despite the tragedy they faced, they refused to let it defeat them and instead channeled their strength and determination to fight against evil. It was a powerful and inspiring read albeit not an easy one, mind you. 🛑Please take into account the trigger warnings before delving into the story.🛑However, the book's repetition and excessive content made it feel drawn-out and tedious, causing my attention to wander😢. Many passages/pages made me want to skip forward, but I forced myself to finish reading it!Nevertheless, an emotional read that packed a punch. Absolutely recommend.

Fraught with raw suspense and a brutally honest depiction of the police and the legal system
My taste in thrillers is getting better by the day, I see. Riddled with dark secrets wrapped in fine details, "The Good Daughter" is undoubtedly one of the most fulfilling crime thrillers you can read if you're into the genre. Some books leave you aching for more while some others make you desperate for a conclusion to all the loose ends. With all its raw suspense and brutally honest depictions of the police and the legal system, this book satisfies the latter. If you're someone who isn't scared to have your safety bubble ruptured with naked visions of corruption and dirty politics, this book is definitely for you.

A good tragic mysterious book yet unnecessarily lengthy
Story goes around Quinn's family. Rusty Quinn is a defense attorney in Pikeville, Georgia. He is having a very smart and intelligent wife Gamma and two daughters, Samantha and Charlotte. Their happy small town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack. It left his wife dead and Rusty's two girls were forced into the woods at gunpoint by two offenders. One girl can make it happen to run for her life and the other is left behind in woods.28 years later, again one more tragic violent mishap occurs in Pikeville. Charlotte who is a lawyer now witnessed it and all her terrible memories were being unleashed. The childhood tragedy is not revealed at the time but the story unfolds it gradually after another violent crime. At some point of course story touches the hearts. It reflects a feel of sorrow, pain, helplessness as well as a feel of family bonding, love and togetherness.Karin Slaughter is renowned as a mystery novelist. Slaughter has narrated crime and investigation scene brilliantly and has timely added noticeable twists to the story. Some scenes give a feel of listening to an audio while some of unnecessary length. An outstanding narration of flashback gives a feel of present. Slaughter's work is absolutely to be understood to know that how an author can be succeeded to bound a reader with a book."It is a father's job to love his daughter in the way that she needs to be loved.""Nothing ever truly faded. Time only dulled the edges." - Karin Slaughter

New favourite author in town
3.5 stars rounded to 4Karin Slaughter is quickly becoming my favorite new author. I love how she can take things mundane, and then add layers of elements and mystery to it, and keep the readers engaged. The sister/ family dynamism is something that Slaughter is making me a fan of her for, and the way she goes on to end up writing the ending, is nothing sort of marvel. That being said, this book does have a few pacing issues, and I felt that editing could've been better.

All consuming!!
I’m honestly not sure if saying that “I loved this book” is the best way to put my reading experience.. Is it dark? Absolutely. Is it traumatic and disturbing? In true Karin Slaughter fashion, of course. But is it also so all consuming that you’ll have a hard time putting it down? 100 percent.Personally, I find Karin Slaughter books to be somewhat therapeutic - as someone that has unfortunately dealt with SA and doesn’t have it as a trigger when reading dark storylines. I cried when Charlie was explaining what SA truly takes from a person. I FELT that. Her detailing how she wanted to rid herself of everything inside her body that she felt was tainted by Zach, it’s so real. I didn’t even realize it at first, but I found myself sobbing. These types of books are definitely not for everyone. Know your triggers, if you have them. There are plenty of reviews so you don’t need to go in blind. Her books are extremely detailed and can sometimes be gruesome. That’s what makes them so incredible and realistic. As with her others, the character development in this book was phenomenal. You truly understood the motivations behind the main characters and you felt their emotions during each twist and turn. The story is gripping and once you’re in, if you can handle it, you won’t be able to put it down.If you’re interested in reading it, don’t hesitate. It’s absolutely worth it. I’ve quickly become a huge Karin Slaughter fan after 4 books and I’m looking forward to reading the rest!
