Once the blade depth is set can it be locked in place?

So these are just mini utility knife blades, they probably have these at Harbor freight, menards, etc. , otherwise you can order from Amazon, look up mini utility knife blades, one type is CML supply mini utility knife blades on Amazon

What's the best way to get the locking screw loose so that blade can be exchanged?

It is a great design but looks are deceiving because it literally fits easily in the palm of your hand...it is about3-4 inches high. The tiny case t is made of hardened steel and the angled blade pierces the sheath of the wire and allows one to peel the insulation from the wire. The user has to squeeze the unit while pulling the wire through , It's hard to do and I gave it my best effort.

How well does this do on fine, thin pieces of wire?

It actually works on all wires, the best part is the hole/guide that helps so much on keeping the wire straight so the blade can cut it. Hope I help you out..
