What do the speakers on the side do? The top speaker appears to be the only one playing sound.

I saw a "teardown" video on youtube of this speaker box. The only speaker is on the top. There are no side speakers. What appear to be speakers on the sides are actually just speaker ports.

Surround sound see many contradicting reviews side speakers not playing?

It sounds better when the top speaker isn’t covered by anything. We hang ours from our beach umbrella so the sound points down to us.. side speakers play fine.
